How to fix insufficient pump capacity in my HALE Water Pump?
    • D
      Douglas SawyerAug 13, 2025
To address insufficient pump capacity in your HALE Water Pump: * Ensure the engine has sufficient power; a check or tune-up might be needed. * Use a larger suction hose or shorten the existing one. * Remove any obstructions from the suction line strainer. * Replace any suction hose with a collapsed lining. * Ensure the relief valve is properly set and other bypass lines aren't reducing capacity. * Verify the truck transmission is in the correct range or gear. * Reduce lift and use a larger suction hose if lift is too high. * Replace any defective suction hose. * Clear any blockage at the suction hose entry. * If the pump is approaching cavitation, gate the discharge valves to increase pressure and reduce flow; also, reduce the throttle opening.

How to fix discharge valves that are difficult to operate on my HALE Water Pump?
    • E
      Elizabeth PhillipsAug 25, 2025
If the discharge valves on your HALE Water Pump are difficult to operate, it is likely due to a lack of lubrication. Apply an approved lubricant to the discharge and suction valves weekly. Consult the valve manual for specific guidance.

What to do if my HALE Water Pump loses prime or will not prime?
    • D
      Daniel SchneiderNov 16, 2025
If your HALE Water Pump is losing prime or will not prime: * For electric priming systems, maintain 1,000 engine RPM to support the electrical system and initial pumping. * Check the priming system with a “Dry Vacuum Test” per NFPA standards; excessive wear may be indicated if the primer pulls less than 22 inches of vacuum while the pump holds vacuum. * Ensure suction lifts do not exceed 22 feet. * Clear any obstructions from the suction hose strainer. * Clean and tighten all suction connections, and inspect suction hoses and gaskets for defects. * Follow proper priming procedures and do not release the primer control prematurely. * Locate and correct any air leaks by performing a dry vacuum test, listening for leaks, pressurizing the pump with water to find visible leakage,...

Why is my HALE Water Pump beginning to cavitate and how can I fix it?
    • T
      Tracy WilkersonNov 19, 2025
If your HALE Water Pump is beginning to cavitate, it could be due to several reasons: * The pump might be discharging more water than it's taking in. Increase the flow into the pump by using more or larger intake lines. Gate the discharge valves to reduce flow and maintain pressure. * An air leak could be present. Make sure the air bleeder on the suction tube is closed, and locate and eliminate all air leaks during maintenance. * Drafting too high could be the issue. Verify lift loss, hose friction, water temperature and other lift limiting factors are reduced or eliminated. Locate the pump closer to the water source. * High water temperature can also cause cavitation. Reduce the volume discharged by lowering RPM or gating the discharge valves. Consider finding a source of cooler ...
