Maintenance
40
• Replace the cover.
• As soon as the new batteries are placed, the batteries must be
charged. See ‘Charging the batteries’.
• Avoid metal parts from coming into contact with the battery
terminals. This may lead to short circuiting, which could have
very serious consequences.
• See ‘Used scooters and the environment’ for correct disposal of
the batteries.
6.1.3 Cleaning the batteries
Dry batteries are maintenance free. Still, you have to pay attention to the following
matters:
• Keep the batteries clean and dry: dirt and water may cause a leak, causing the
capacity of the batteries to decrease.
• Cleaning the terminals: and after cleaning, grease them with acid-free Vaseline.
Never completely deplete the batteries! This can seriously damage
the batteries and considerably decrease their life span.
6.2 Tyres
For the proper functioning of the scooter it is very important that the tyres are kept at
the correct pressure.
The tyres are equipped with a car valve. You can have the tyres inflated at your local
gas service station, or you can do it yourself using a foot pump. To inflate the tyres,
remove the cap from the valve.
Soft tyres yield less than optimal driving for the scooter. It also costs more energy to
move the scooter forward, putting a heavier load on the batteries. Moreover, tyre wear
when driving on soft tyres is unnecessarily great.
For the right tyre tension, see 'Product specifications'.
Note when filling the tyres that the pressure may never exceed the
maximum specified value provided in the table 'technical data', or
as indicated on the sticker on the wheel concerned. When in doubt,
contact your dealer / supplier.
For inspection of the tyres, see the 'maintenance table'.
6.2.1 Inflating the tyres
The tyres are equipped with car valves and can be inflated with a proper pump. A foot
pump may be used, or you can have the tyres inflated at your local gas service station.
You may also use an ordinary bicycle pump, in combination with the reducing nipple
included in the delivery.
