Overview

This document describes the Hisense U5120G 5.1.2CH Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer, an audio system designed to enhance your home entertainment experience. The soundbar offers a range of features for immersive sound, versatile connectivity, and user-friendly operation.

Function Description

The Hisense U5120G is a 5.1.2 channel soundbar system that includes a main unit and a wireless subwoofer. It is designed to deliver rich, clear, and powerful audio, supporting advanced audio formats like Dolby Atmos® and DTS:X. Dolby Atmos provides an immersive listening experience by delivering sound in three-dimensional space, while DTS:X offers flexible sound debugging based on the playback environment for optimal performance. The system can be connected to various audio and video sources, including TVs, DVD players, Blu-ray Disc™ players, and gaming consoles, through multiple input options.

Usage Features

The soundbar offers several modes of operation and connectivity options to suit different user needs.

Basic Operation:

  • Standby/ON: The unit can be switched ON or to Standby mode using the dedicated button on the unit or the remote control. To completely power off the unit, the mains plug must be disconnected.
  • Auto-Standby / Auto-Wake Feature: The soundbar is programmed to enter Standby mode automatically after 15 minutes of no audio detection. It can also automatically switch ON when a TV or external device is connected via COAXIAL/OPTICAL sockets. This feature can be enabled or disabled through the setup menu.
  • Select Modes: Users can select different input modes such as OPTICAL, COAXIAL, HDMI 1, HDMI 2, HDMI ARC, USB, and BT (Bluetooth) using the SOURCE button on the unit or remote control.
  • Adjust Bass/Treble Level: The bass and treble levels can be adjusted using the BASS +/- and TREBLE +/- buttons on the remote control, allowing for personalized sound.
  • Turn Surround Sound ON/OFF: The SURR button on the remote control allows users to toggle the surround sound feature ON or OFF.
  • Adjust Volume: Volume can be increased or decreased using the VOL+ / VOL- buttons on the unit or remote control.
  • Adjust Brightness: The DIMMER +/- button on the remote control allows adjustment of the display brightness.
  • Select Equalizer (EQ) Effect: Preset equalizer effects such as MUSIC, MOVIE, NEWS, SPORT, NIGHT, GAME, and AI EQ can be selected using the EQ button on the remote control.
  • Set Audio Delay (AV SYNC): This feature allows users to adjust the audio delay (00~200ms) to synchronize audio with video, especially useful when video image processing causes a delay in the audio signal. This setting is valid for digital audio inputs like HDMI IN, HDMI ARC, COAXIAL, and OPTICAL.

DTS:X Operation:

The soundbar supports Neural:X / Virtual:X / DRC / Dialog Control features. These can be accessed and adjusted through the setup menu by pressing and holding the ►II button for 3 seconds. Users can toggle Dts Neural and Dts Virtual ON/OFF, select DRC settings (Heavy, Mid, Min), and adjust the Dts Dialog Control value (0~6).

OPTICAL / COAXIAL / HDMI / ARC Operation:

The soundbar can be connected to a TV or audio device via OPTICAL, COAXIAL, HDMI 1, HDMI 2, or HDMI ARC. It's important to ensure the audio setting of the input source (e.g., TV, game console, DVD player) is set to PCM or Dolby Digital for optimal performance, especially with digital inputs. The unit may mute if it cannot decode the digital audio format, which is not a defect.

Bluetooth Operation:

  • Pairing Devices: To connect a Bluetooth device, select Bluetooth mode on the soundbar. The unit will display "NO BT" if not paired. Activate search mode on your Bluetooth device and select "Hisense U5120G" from the list. If the unit is not found, press and hold the ∗ button on the remote to make it searchable. A "Pairing" voice prompt will be heard, followed by "Paired" and "BT IN" on the display upon successful connection.
  • Listening to Music: Once paired, music can be played from the connected Bluetooth device. If the device supports AVRCP, the soundbar's remote control can be used for playback control (start, pause, resume, skip tracks).
  • Disconnecting Bluetooth: Bluetooth can be disconnected by switching to another function on the soundbar, disabling Bluetooth on the connected device, or by pressing and holding the ∗ button on the remote.

USB Operation:

  • Connecting USB Devices: Insert a USB device into the USB socket.
  • Playing Music: Select USB mode using the SOURCE button. The remote control can be used for playback control (start, pause, resume, skip tracks). The unit supports USB devices up to 32 GB and can play WAV, WMA, MP3, FLAC, DSD, and ALAC file formats.

Hisense EzPlay Function:

For Hisense TVs with EzPlay, connecting the soundbar via HDMI ARC enables a dedicated Soundbar Setting menu on the TV. This allows users to control most soundbar features directly using their TV remote control. This function requires both the soundbar and TV to support Hisense EzPlay, be connected via HDMI ARC, and have the TV's CEC feature turned ON.

Placement and Mounting:

The soundbar can be placed on a table in front of the TV or wall-mounted directly below the TV screen. Wall mounting requires drilling 4 parallel holes (Ø 5.5-6 mm, 1156 mm apart) and securely fixing wall mount brackets. Screws at the back of the unit must be removed before installing wall mounting screws. It is recommended that wall mounting be carried out by qualified personnel to prevent injury or property damage. The suggested wall mounting height is ≤ 1.5 meters.

Maintenance Features

Remote Control Battery Replacement:

To replace the remote control battery:

  1. Slide open the back cover of the remote control.
  2. Insert two AAA size batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+ and -).
  3. Close the battery compartment cover.

Precautions Concerning Batteries:

  • Always insert batteries with correct positive and negative polarities.
  • Use batteries of the same type; do not mix different types (rechargeable/non-rechargeable) or new/old batteries.
  • Remove batteries if the unit is not used for a long period to prevent corrosion or leakage.
  • Do not expose batteries to excessive heat, direct sunlight, or fire.

General Care:

  • Clean the unit only with a dry or slightly damp cloth; avoid chemical solvents.
  • Do not block ventilation openings.
  • Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched.
  • Unplug the apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long periods.
  • Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.

Troubleshooting:

The manual provides a troubleshooting section for common issues such as no power, remote control not working, no sound, inability to find the Bluetooth name, and the subwoofer being idle. Solutions include checking power connections, replacing remote control batteries, ensuring correct audio settings, repositioning the subwoofer within range, and re-pairing the subwoofer with the main unit. The unit also features a 15-minute power-off function, an ERPII standard requirement for saving power, which activates if the external input signal level is too low.
