The Hohem iSteady M6 Kit is a sophisticated 3-axis smartphone gimbal designed to enhance mobile videography and photography. It offers advanced stabilization, intelligent tracking, and versatile control options, making it suitable for both amateur and professional content creators.
Function Description:
The iSteady M6 is primarily a smartphone stabilizer that eliminates shaky footage, allowing users to capture smooth, cinematic videos and sharp photos. It features three motorized axes (pan, tilt, and roll) that counteract unwanted movements, ensuring a stable platform for the attached smartphone. The "Kit" version includes a magnetic AI Vision Sensor with an integrated fill light, which significantly expands its capabilities, particularly for intelligent tracking without relying on a smartphone app.
The gimbal supports various shooting modes to cater to different scenarios:
- Pan Follow (PF): The tilt and roll axes are locked, and the camera smoothly follows left or right pan movements.
- Pan & Tilt Follow (PTF): The roll axis is locked, while the camera follows both left/right pan and up/down tilt movements.
- All Lock (L): The camera maintains its current orientation, locking all three axes.
- All Follow (POV): Also known as first-person shot, all three axes (tilt, roll, and pan) follow the movement of the gimbal, providing an immersive perspective.
- Sport Mode (S): Increases the gimbal's follow speed to quickly capture fast-moving subjects and action-packed scenes.
- Inception (ICP): Enables a 360° infinite spinning motion on the pan axis when the gimbal is held horizontally, creating dynamic, rotating shots.
Beyond stabilization, the iSteady M6 offers intelligent tracking capabilities, especially with the optional AI Vision Sensor. This sensor allows for gesture control to initiate and stop tracking, and it can track subjects for both front and rear camera setups by simply aligning the sensor with the desired camera direction. The gimbal also supports A-B motion timelapse, allowing users to set start and end points for automated, smooth camera movements over time.
Usage Features:
The iSteady M6 is designed for intuitive operation, both through its on-board controls and the dedicated Hohem Joy app.
Mounting and Balancing:
- Mounting: The phone clamp can be rotated 90° for quick switching between landscape and portrait modes. Users unlock the roll and pan axes to ensure movable arms before mounting the phone.
- Balancing: The roll axis arm can be adjusted left or right until the phone is steady and level with the ground, after which the latch is tightened. For portrait mode, the phone should be balanced centrally within the clamp.
- Quick Switch to Portrait Mode: The handle can be rotated to switch to portrait mode, allowing the gimbal to be held like a flashlight. In this mode, the joystick primarily controls left/right camera movement.
Powering On & Standby:
- Power On/Off: Press and hold the power button for 3 seconds.
- Standby Mode: Double-press the power button when powered on.
- Wake Up: Press the power button once from standby.
- Ultra-Wide-Angle Shot: Press the trigger four times to switch to a mode where the roll motor moves to the front of the phone screen, providing unobstructed views for wide-angle shots.
On-board Controls:
- OLED Display: Provides real-time information on gimbal mode (PF, PTF, L, POV), battery level, Bluetooth connection status, wheel working status (Roll Axis Rotation, Focus Control, Fill Light, RGB Light), and error messages.
