Before removing the system board, follow these steps:
1. Prepare the computer for disassembly (Preparation for disassembly on page 34).
2. Remove the bottom cover (see Bottom cover on page 34), and then remove the following components:
a. Battery (see Battery on page 37)
b. Solid-state drive (see Solid-state drive on page 54) or Optane memory module (Optane memory
module on page 55)
c. Fan(s) (see Fan(s) on page 65)
When replacing the system board, be sure to remove the following components from the defective system
board and install them on the replacement system board:
WLAN module (see WLAN module on page 52)
Memory modules (see Memory module on page 56)
Heat sink (see Heat sink on page 67)
Remove the system board:
1. Disconnect the following cables:
(1) USB board cable
(2) Power connector cable
(3) Memory card reader board cable
(4) Hard drive connector cable
(5) Backlight cable (select products only)
(6) Keyboard cable
(7) TouchPad cable
(8) Display cable
(9) Speaker cable
2. Remove the four Phillips M2.0 × 2.0 screws (1) that secure the system board to the computer.
