10 Troubleshooting
10.1 Troubleshooting schedule
Fault Possible cause Steps Troubleshooting Procedure
The start motor
does not start
when the key
switch is turned
to START.
Cutting deck
lowered.
1 Make sure that the lift lever is in the top position. Move the lift lev-
er to the top po-
sition if it is nec-
essary.
Parking brake
not applied.
2 Do a check of parking brake. Apply parking
brake.
Low battery volt-
age.
3 Make sure that the 15A fuse is not damaged. Replace the
fuse.
4 Measure the battery voltage, >12.0V. Charge the bat-
tery.
5 Measure the voltage of the red cable connected to
the ignition switch. The voltage must be equal to the
battery voltage.
Repair the cable
or replace the
wiring.
Defective starter
relay.
6 Do a check of of the thin brown cable between igni-
tion switch and the starter relay.
Repair the cable
or replace the
wiring.
7 Do a check of the black cable between the starter re-
lay and the negative terminal on the battery (-).
Repair the cable
or replace the
wiring.
8 Measure the voltage of the thin brown cable to the
starter relay. When the key switch is turned to
START, the voltage in the cable and the battery must
be the same.
Replace the ig-
nition switch.
9 Measure the resistance of the relay. It must be
3.7-4.2 Ω.
Replace the
starter relay.
Defective park-
ing brake micro-
switch.
10 Do a check of the parking brake microswitch. Replace the mi-
croswitch.
Defective lift lev-
er microswitch.
11 Do a check that the microswitch changes the posi-
tion when the lift lever is lifted.
Replace the mi-
croswitch.
Wiring fault. 12 Measure the resistance between the thin black cable
to the starter relay and the negative battery terminal.
If the parking brake is applied and lift the lever in the
top position, the resistance must be low.
Go to next step.
13 Measure the resistance between the black cable to
the starter relay and the connector to the wiring to
the pedal plate 1 pin. The resistance must be low.
Repair the cable
or replace the
wiring.
14 Measure the resistance between the wiring to the
pedal plate pin 5 and the negative battery terminal.
The resistance must be low.
Repair the cable
or replace the
wiring.
15 Measure the resistance between the wiring to the
pedal plate pin 2 and the negative battery terminal. If
the lift lever is in the top position, the resistance must
be low.
Repair the cable
or replace the
wiring.
16 Do a check that the grounding point on the engine is
fully tightened.
Tighten the
ground cable.
