Powering on and off the Systems Director Management Console and
system
Use one or more of the following procedures to power on or power off your IBM Systems Director
Management Console (SDMC) or system.
Powering on the SDMC
During the process of powering on, the SDMC checks to see which servers are available and
communicating with the console. To ensure that each server is available before you power on the SDMC,
servers must be in standby mode or actively operating. Standby mode is indicated by the OK shown in
the operator panel after the server has the power connected and the initial tests are complete.
Note: If the server is in an emergency power off (EPOW) condition, the server must be brought to
standby mode before the SDMC can be used to power on the system.
To power on the SDMC, perform the following steps:
1. Press the Power button once to turn on the power.
2. When the system has finished the power-on self-test (POST), log in to SDMC.
Powering off the SDMC
Attention: If possible, shut down all applications and virtual servers before powering off the system.
Using either the power-on button on the control panel or entering commands at the SDMC to stop the
system can cause unpredictable results in the data files. Also, the next time you start the system, it might
take longer if all applications are not ended before stopping the system.
To power off the SDMC, complete the following steps:
1. In the Welcome page, open Settings.
2. Under Restart or Shut Down tasks, click Shut down or Restart IBM Systems Director Management
Console. The Restart window opens.
