  If you cannot contact another station with your Icom Transceiver, even though receiving and transmitting appear successful, the Split function may be activated, causing transmit and receive frequencies to differ. Push the SPLIT button to turn OFF this function. Alternatively, the RIT function or the ?TX function might be ON, also setting different receive or transmit frequencies; push RIT or TX to turn OFF these functions.

  If your Icom Transceiver's sensitivity is too low, and you can only hear strong signals, there are a few things to check. First, make sure the attenuator is turned OFF in the FUNCTION screen. Also, ensure the squelch is open by rotating the AF RF/SQL (outer) to the 12 o’clock position. Check your antenna for defects or shorts/cuts in the coaxial cable connector, and repair/reconnect as needed. Verify that you're using an antenna suitable for the selected band, and if not, connect an appropriate antenna. Finally, you can try holding down the TUNER button to tune the antenna.

  If you're experiencing no power output or low output power with your Icom Transceiver, several factors could be at play. First, ensure that the operating frequency is within a ham band. If it is, check that the modulation input signal level isn't set too low by adjusting the microphone gain in the Multi-function menu. You may want to check your microphone, by attempting to transmit in FM, CW, or RTTY mode to see if the problem lies with the microphone or the transceiver itself. High antenna SWR (more than 3:1) can also cause this issue, so adjust the antenna for an SWR of less than 3:1. If the antenna is not properly tuned, hold down the TUNER button for 1 second to tune it. Finally, verify that the TX power isn't set too low by adjusting the RF POWER in the Multi-function menu.
