Overview

The O5H5xx is a diffuse reflection sensor with background suppression, designed to detect objects and materials without contact and indicate their presence via a switching signal. This sensor is suitable for various industrial applications where non-contact object detection is required.

Function Description:

The core function of the O5H5xx sensor is to emit light and detect the reflection from an object. By utilizing background suppression, it can differentiate between the target object and the background, ensuring reliable detection even in complex environments. The sensor provides a switching signal to indicate the presence or absence of an object. The range of the sensor is specified on its type label.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Electrical Connection: The unit requires connection by a qualified electrician, adhering to national and international regulations for electrical equipment installation (e.g., EN 50178). It is crucial to disconnect power before connecting the unit.
  • Wiring:
    • Connector (M12):
      • p-switching: Pin 1 (L+), Pin 2 (OUT), Pin 3 (L-), Pin 4 (OUT).
      • n-switching: Pin 1 (L+), Pin 2 (OUT), Pin 3 (L-), Pin 4 (OUT).
    • Cable:
      • p-switching: BN (brown) to L+, BK (black) to OUT, BU (blue) to L-.
      • n-switching: BN (brown) to L+, BK (black) to OUT, BU (blue) to L-.
      • Core colours: BN = brown, BU = blue, BK = black.
  • Operating and Display Elements:
    • LED: Indicates the operating status.
    • [OUT on] button: Used for setting the sensitivity when the object is detected.
    • [OUT off] button: Used for setting the sensitivity to the background.
  • Setting Time: The maximum programming time is 15 minutes. Exceeding this time or insufficient difference in measurements can lead to unsuccessful settings, causing the LED to flash quickly (8 Hz) and the sensor to return to normal operating mode with unchanged values.
  • Electronic Lock: The unit features an electronic lock to prevent unauthorized settings. It is unlocked upon delivery. To lock or unlock, press both [OUT on] and [OUT off] buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds. A change in the LED status indicates acknowledgment.

Usage Features:

  • Installation: The sensor should be aligned to the object to be detected and secured to a bracket. For optimal performance, objects to be detected should move transversely to the sensor's lens. If movement occurs in other directions, it is recommended to test the setup to ensure reliable switching.
  • Sensitivity Setting:
    • To switch when the object is detected: Position the object, then press [OUT on] for 2 seconds. The LED will flash, indicating that sensitivity is set to the object.
    • To switch when the object is not detected (background suppression): Remove the object, then press [OUT off] for 2 seconds. The LED will go out, indicating that sensitivity is set to the background.
    • Setting maximum sensitivity:
      • For switching when the object is detected: Align the sensor so no light is reflected, then press [OUT on] followed by [OUT off].
      • For switching when the object is not detected: Align the sensor so no light is reflected, then press [OUT off] followed by [OUT on].
  • Operation Check: After installation and configuration, verify that the unit operates correctly, indicated by the LEDs.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: The lens of the sensor must be kept free from soiling to ensure accurate operation. When cleaning, avoid using solvents or cleaning agents that could damage the plastic parts of the sensor.
  • Disposal: At the end of its service life, the unit should be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner, in accordance with applicable national regulations.
  • Repair: Faulty sensors must only be repaired by the manufacturer to ensure proper functioning and safety.
