This document describes the TA3, TA3-A, TA3-B, and TA3-C series of mechanical thermostats from Imit Control System s.r.l. These devices are designed for accurate room temperature adjustment, catering to various user needs for comfort in a given space.
Function Description
The TA3 series thermostats are easy-to-use mechanical devices that allow users to set and maintain a desired room temperature. They operate by switching an output contact based on the ambient temperature relative to the user-set temperature. Different models within the series offer slightly varied functionalities:
- TA3-A: A basic thermostat for temperature setting.
- TA3-B: Includes an ON/OFF switch in addition to temperature setting.
- TA3-C: Features a SUMMER/WINTER switch, allowing selection between heating and air-conditioning modes, alongside temperature setting.
The temperature is adjusted via a setting knob, and some models include a warning lamp to indicate operation.
Important Technical Specifications
The TA3 series thermostats offer robust performance with the following key specifications:
- Maximum capacity of the contacts: 16(2.5)A/250V~, indicating their ability to handle significant electrical loads.
- Type of action: 1B, which refers to the switching mechanism.
- Temperature regulation range: 5°C to 30°C, providing a wide range for comfort settings.
- Temperature differential: 0.4K to 0.8K, signifying the sensitivity of the thermostat in maintaining the set temperature.
- Output: Switching contacts, indicating a simple on/off control.
- Degree of protection: IP20, meaning it is protected against solid objects larger than 12.5mm but has no special protection against water.
- Insulation class: Double insulation, providing enhanced safety against electric shock.
- Pollution degree: 2, suitable for most indoor environments where only non-conductive pollution occurs.
- Storage temperature: 0°C to 50°C, defining the safe temperature range for storage.
- Rated impulse withstand voltage: 4kV, indicating its resistance to transient overvoltages.
- Installation: Designed for wall installation.
- Temperature rate of change: 1K/15min, describing how quickly the thermostat responds to temperature fluctuations.
Conformity to Standards and Guidelines:
The product complies with EN 60730-1 and subsequent revisions, EN 60730-2-9, LVD 2014/35/EU, and Class ErP I (+1%) – EU 811/2013, ensuring it meets relevant safety, performance, and energy efficiency regulations.
Usage Features
Installation:
- Placement: The thermostat should be installed approximately 1.5 meters from the floor, away from direct heat sources (radiators, sunrays, kitchens) and drafts from doors/windows to ensure accurate temperature sensing.
- Mounting: For installation in round built-in boxes (60mm centres) or on uneven wall surfaces, an optional sub-base fitting (cod. 004095) is recommended. This fitting is secured to the wall, and the thermostat is then attached to it.
- Wiring: The front cover is removed by releasing a clip. Power supply wires are threaded through a slot in the base and connected to terminals according to the wiring diagram inside the appliance. After wiring, the front cover is snapped back into place. It is crucial to ensure the supply voltage of the controlled unit (boiler, pump, air-conditioning system) is disconnected before wiring and matches the appliance's indication (250V~ max).
Operation:
- Turning ON/OFF (TA3-B): For TA3-B models, an ON/OFF switch allows users to start or stop the controlled equipment.
- SUMMER/WINTER Switch (TA3-C): For TA3-C models, a dedicated switch allows selection between "summer" mode (air conditioning) and "winter" mode (heating).
- Temperature Setting: Once connected and powered, the desired room temperature is set by turning the temperature-adjusting knob to the corresponding value on the graduated scale.
Temperature Range Restriction and Lock (Advanced Feature):
- Restriction: This operation must be carried out by qualified personnel. It involves removing the front cover, inserting a provided fitting (cod. 000071) into the knob at desired minimum and maximum limit points, and ensuring a metal retainer is correctly positioned. This prevents the knob from being turned beyond the set limits.
- Lock: Also for qualified personnel, this feature locks the thermostat at a pre-set temperature. The knob is positioned to the desired temperature, the base is separated from the cover, and two special accessories are inserted on the sides of a metal stop to prevent the handle from moving. The lid is then put back on.
Maintenance Features
Troubleshooting:
The manual provides guidance for common issues:
- Problem: The system does not start.
- Possible causes: Wrong wiring, set room temperature already reached, switch in OFF position, wrong setting of summer/winter switch.
- Solution: Check wiring connections against the diagram, adjust the set temperature, ensure the switch is in the ON position, and verify the summer/winter switch setting.
- Problem: The ambient temperature does not correspond to the temperature set on the thermostat.
- Possible causes: Incorrect positioning of the thermostat within the room, air drafts from the electrical wires conduit.
- Solution: Follow instructions for thermostat placement, and seal the conduit to prevent drafts.
General Maintenance:
- In case of repeated malfunctioning, users are advised to contact Technical Service and avoid tampering with any part of the thermostat.
- The product model and code are printed on a sticker, either on the outside or inside of the battery compartment cover, which can be useful for support or replacement.
