What to do if steam gushes from the steam release valve on my Instant Pot Fryer when in the Seal position?

  If steam gushes from the steam release valve when the quick release button is in the Seal position, it could be due to a few reasons. First, ensure you have enough liquid in the inner pot. Add thin, water-based liquid according to the size of your inner pot: 6 Qt: 1 ½ cups (375 mL /~12 oz) or 8 Qt: 2 cups (500 mL /~16 oz). Also, flick the quick release button to make sure it is in the Seal position.

  Steam leaking from the side of the lid can occur for several reasons: * No sealing ring in the lid. Install a sealing ring. * The sealing ring is damaged or not installed properly. Replace the sealing ring. * Food debris is attached to the sealing ring. Remove the sealing ring and clean it thoroughly. * The lid is not closed properly. Open, then close the lid.

  Minor steam leaking or hissing from the steam release valve during the cook cycle can occur if the quick release button is not in the Seal position. Flick the quick release button to make sure it is in the Seal position. It can also be that the cooker is regulating excess pressure, which is normal and requires no action.

  Black smoke coming from the air fryer lid can be due to several reasons. It could be from using an oil with a low smoke point. In this case, choose a neutral oil with a high smoke point, such as Canola, Avocado, Soybean, Safflower, or Rice Bran. Another reason could be food residue on the bottom of the inner pot or around the element on the air fryer lid. You should remove all accessories from the inner pot and thoroughly clean the inner pot, air fryer lid, and all accessories.
