History

Overview

The INTEGRA BCR-SD G2 is an access control and security management system designed for robust and reliable operation within various environments. This device serves as a smart card reader, integrating seamlessly into a broader access control infrastructure, typically powered by an S-Node G2, C-Node G2, or Moveo/XL central unit. Its primary function is to manage access requests and provide status indications for door environments, making it a critical component in comprehensive security solutions.

Function Description

The BCR-SD G2 operates as a contactless smart card access reader, capable of reading cards within a 50 mm range. It incorporates a built-in antenna for efficient card reading, a clearly visible keypad for user input, LED indicators for status feedback, and an internal buzzer for audible alerts. A convenient display further enhances its functionality by presenting graphic symbols and facilitating menu-based interactions, particularly for managing alarm areas.

The device supports integrated management of alarm areas, allowing users to set, unset, and acknowledge alarms directly from the reader. This feature streamlines security operations by providing immediate control at the point of access. The keypad enables users to enter PINs or other codes, adding an extra layer of security beyond card-only access. The LED indicators provide visual cues regarding door status, access granted/denied, and other operational states, ensuring users are well-informed. The internal buzzer provides audible feedback for button presses, access events, and warnings, enhancing the user experience and security awareness.

For outdoor installations or environments with low ambient temperatures, the BCR-SD G2 includes an integrated heater. This heater automatically activates to ensure optimal performance and reliability even in challenging weather conditions, preventing issues that might arise from extreme cold. The device communicates via an RS485 interface, which is a standard for robust and long-distance data transmission in industrial and security applications. This interface allows the BCR-SD G2 to connect to a network of other access control devices and central units, forming a cohesive security system.

The BCR-SD G2 is designed with sabotage protection, housed in a sturdy case to withstand tampering attempts. This physical resilience, combined with its communication capabilities, makes it suitable for high-security applications, including those requiring compliance with standards like EN 50131 Grade 3 for intruder alarm systems. In such installations, specific wall tamper springs are required to detect any unauthorized removal of the device from its mounting surface, further enhancing its security integrity.

Usage Features

The installation process for the BCR-SD G2 involves several key steps, starting with evaluating power requirements and selecting appropriate mounting accessories. The device is designed to be installed on walls, mounting columns, or mounting brackets. It is crucial to use the provided drilling pattern for installation, as the back plate's rubber sealing should not be used as a template. For installations on metal surfaces, using an accessory installation plate (e.g., 44282070 Installation plate for xCR-SD G2) is strongly recommended to minimize interference and ensure optimal reading distance.

Cabling involves routing power and communication lines to the S-Node G2, C-Node G2, Moveo, or Moveo XL, or to another reader if the device is part of a bus configuration. All cables are fed into the bottom part of the box and secured with cable ties. The device's address needs to be set for proper RS485 communication. All devices come with a default address of "1," which can be changed via a specific procedure involving the "Menu button" and keypad input. This allows for unique identification of each reader within the network.

The RS485 communication line requires careful configuration, operating as a bus with no branches and requiring termination at each end. Jumpers on each device (including the BCR-SD G2) enable or disable termination, ensuring signal integrity across the network. For optimal performance and security, screened, twisted pair cables (e.g., PTS-HF-2x2x0.6) are recommended for RS485 lines, especially given their resistance to wiretapping.

Once installed and configured, the BCR-SD G2 is ready for testing. Connecting the terminal PL1 to the device should result in a 1-second beep, indicating proper functionality, assuming the system is already configured at the PC level and the parent node is operational. The unit is then assembled by pressing the top part onto the back plate, ensuring correct positioning.

Maintenance Features

Periodical service checks are essential to ensure the continued optimal performance and security of the BCR-SD G2. These checks involve several steps:

  1. Keypad and Display Activation: Verify that the display intensity increases and the keypad light activates when approached within 25 cm. This confirms the proximity sensor and lighting are working correctly.
  2. Mechanical Inspection: Visually inspect the device for any mechanical damage or scratches on the box and display glass. Any damage could compromise the device's integrity or functionality.
  3. Keypad Functionality: Test every key on the keypad to ensure tactile feedback and an audible beep from the internal buzzer. This confirms that all input mechanisms are responsive.
  4. Card Reading Functionality:
    • Valid Card Test: Apply a valid card to the reader. A green light stripe should activate, accompanied by a single beep, and the screen should display a specific "access granted" graphic.
    • Invalid Card Test: Apply an invalid card. A red light stripe should activate, accompanied by two beeps, and the screen should display an "access denied" graphic.
  5. Wiring Inspection: Open the device and visually inspect all wiring. Ensure every wire is properly inserted and fixed in the screw terminals. Loose connections can lead to intermittent operation or complete failure.
  6. Electronics Inspection: Visually check the electronics for any possible damage. There should be no visible damage to the circuit board or components.
  7. Water/Humidity Check: Inspect both the bottom part and the lid for any traces of water or humidity. The presence of water drops or signs of humidity indicates a potential water leakage issue. If leakage is found, the device must be evaluated for the source, often due to improper sealing of cables, and the bottom part may need replacement.
  8. Voltage Measurement: Measure the voltage at the screw terminal and compare it against the specified power supply level. The voltage must be within the range of 20-30 V DC to ensure stable operation.

Troubleshooting common issues is also covered. If there is no communication with the reader (indicated by a specific error graphic on the display), the following steps should be taken: check RS485 wire connections and polarity, verify the setting of switch SW1 for RS485 termination based on the reader's position in the line, and compare the device address with the address set in the system. If the reader is not working at all, check the wiring of connectors and polarity, ensure the power supply is within the 20-30 V DC range, confirm SW1 termination settings, and verify the device's address in the system configuration. These maintenance and troubleshooting guidelines ensure the BCR-SD G2 remains a reliable and secure part of the access control system.
