Overview

The iSpring DS4S is a free-standing water dispenser equipped with a built-in 4-stage filtration system, designed to provide pure, healthy, and tasty water for household use. It offers both hot and cold water dispensing capabilities, with a focus on user safety and ease of maintenance.

Function Description

The primary function of the iSpring DS4S is to dispense filtered hot, cold, and room temperature water. It integrates a comprehensive 4-stage filtration process to purify incoming tap water. The filtration stages are designed to progressively remove various contaminants, ensuring the dispensed water is clean and safe for consumption.

The first stage, the FPDS PP Filter, is a high-capacity polypropylene filter made with food-grade micro-fibers. Its main purpose is to remove larger particles such as sediment, dirt, sand, silt, rust, and scale. This initial stage acts as a pre-filter, protecting subsequent filters from premature clogging.

The second stage, the FGKDS GAC+KDF Compound Filter, combines high-quality KDF (Kinetic Degradation Fluxion) and granular activated carbon. This stage is crucial for reducing chlorine, lead, hydrogen sulfide, odors, and other chemical contaminants, significantly improving the taste and smell of the water.

The third stage, the FCDS CTO Carbon Block Filter, utilizes high-quality activated carbon in a block form. This filter further reduces chlorine, foul odor, and taste, while also removing any remaining sediment, dirt, sand, and rust particles that might have passed through the previous stages.

Finally, the fourth stage, the FTDS Post Activated Carbon Filter, consists of high-quality granular activated carbon. This post-filter acts as a final polish, ensuring that the dispensed water is free from any residual chlorine, foul odor, and taste, and removing any fine sediment, dirt, sand, and rust particles, delivering a crisp and clean finish.

The dispenser features a control panel with LED indicator lights that provide real-time status updates on the unit's operation. These lights indicate whether the hot water system is on or off, if hot water is currently heating or has reached its optimum temperature, and if cold water is cooling or ready to dispense. A yellow LED light specifically monitors water levels inside the reservoir, alerting the user if levels are low or confirming they are normal.

For safety, the hot water push button is equipped with a child safety lock, preventing accidental dispensing of hot water. The unit also includes a leak-detect sensor that will trigger an alarm if water is detected outside the system, helping to prevent potential water damage.

Usage Features

The iSpring DS4S is designed for straightforward operation. To dispense hot water, the user must activate the hot water switch located on the panel. The hot water temperature is factory set and cannot be adjusted, reaching temperatures up to 94°C/201°F. The child safety lock for hot water requires a specific action (sliding a red lock button while pressing the hot water button) to prevent unintended use, especially by children.

Cold water dispensing is also simple, with the unit delivering water between 4°C and 8°C (39°F - 46°F) by default. The cold water temperature can be adjusted by the user using a screwdriver to turn a dial, allowing for colder water if desired. Room temperature water is available directly without heating or cooling.

The dispenser requires a grounded electrical supply and should be placed on a flat, level surface, with at least 2 inches (5 cm) of clearance around the back and sides for proper ventilation. It is crucial not to plug in or turn on the dispenser unless there is water in the system to prevent damage. If the unit has been resting on its side, it should be placed upright for approximately 12 hours before turning it on.

Installation involves connecting the 1/4" tubing to the water inlet at the back of the system and plugging in the power cord. An optional Feed Water Adapter (AFW43) is available for connecting to the cold water supply valve. After installation or filter changes, the system requires flushing for at least 5 minutes, or until the water runs clean, by removing the drain line cap at the back of the system. The lower front door, which houses the filters, must always be closed for proper operation.

For periods of non-use, such as vacations, it is recommended to unplug the dispenser and drain the reservoirs to conserve energy. Upon return, the initial product cleaning procedures should be followed before startup.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is essential for the longevity and performance of the iSpring DS4S, and it is also a requirement for the product warranty. The instruction manual provides detailed guidelines for care and cleaning.

Cleaning the outside of the water dispenser involves using soapy water and a soft cloth, avoiding harsh chemicals or abrasive materials. The removable drip tray and grill, located at the front of the system, should be cleaned regularly with soapy water to prevent buildup and maintain hygiene.

Draining the reservoirs is a critical maintenance step, especially before extended periods of non-use or during filter changes. This process involves preparing a bucket, removing the drain line cap at the back of the system, and allowing the water to drain completely. Users are cautioned that the water may still be hot when draining.

Filter replacement is a key aspect of maintaining water quality. The manual outlines a clear step-by-step process for changing the filters. This includes opening the lower front door, turning off the inline ball valve, draining the reservoirs, unscrewing the old filters (turning left), screwing in the new corresponding replacement filters (turning right), turning on the inline ball valve, and closing the lower front door. After replacing filters, the system must be flushed again for at least 5 minutes until the water is clean. The manual also provides a table of replacement filter packs (F3DS, F4DS, F7DS) and the number of each filter type included in these packs, indicating their respective stages.

Troubleshooting guidance is provided for common issues such as leaking, water not being hot or cold enough, water not dispensing, and noisy operation. Solutions range from ensuring secure seals and proper connections to activating switches, resetting circuit breakers, and priming the unit to remove air pockets. The leak-detect sensor, if triggered, requires removal, drying, and replacement.

The use of only authorized iSpring parts is emphasized, as using unauthorized or aftermarket components will void the product warranty. Regular cleaning every four months is specifically recommended to ensure proper functioning and to uphold the warranty.
