Overview

The Jackson Systems Z-2000-T is an auto-changeover space thermostat designed for use with the Z-2000™ modulating zone control system and the Zone One™ stand-alone zone damper and diffuser. It provides accurate and simple temperature control for the user, offering both installation and operation functionalities.

Function Description:

The Z-2000-T thermostat works by communicating with an actuator board, which in turn controls a damper or diffuser actuator. It supports both two-position (ON/OFF) and fully modulating damper control, selectable via a dip switch, to best suit specific application requirements. The thermostat can be configured to operate in either Celsius or Fahrenheit.

When the thermostat is not actively calling for heating or cooling, it displays the current space temperature. Users can adjust the setpoint within predefined limits using the UP and DOWN keys. A padlock icon on the LCD indicates when the thermostat is locked, preventing unauthorized setup changes.

The device features Modbus communications capability, allowing for remote monitoring and control. This is particularly useful in larger systems or for integration with building management systems.

Usage Features:

  • ON/OFF Key: Toggles the thermostat ON or OFF. When OFF, the damper is driven closed. This function is active only when the thermostat is unlocked.
  • STATUS Key: Displays various status points including UNIT number, ZONE number, DUCT temperature, and DAMPER position (in one-degree increments, 0% for fully closed, 100% for fully open).
  • UP and DOWN Keys: Used to increase or decrease the setpoint and change thermostat setup values.
  • SETUP Key: Toggles through the thermostat setup menu.
  • ENTER Key: Used to confirm changes and exit the setup menu.
  • Dip Switches:
    • Switch 1: Locks the thermostat after setup, displaying a padlock icon on the LCD. Only setpoint changes and status functions are accessible when locked.
    • Switch 2: Selects temperature display in Celsius (ON position) or Fahrenheit (OFF position).
    • Switch 3: Selects two-position (ON position) or fully modulating (OFF position) damper control.
  • Setup Menu: Allows configuration of:
    • Maximum Damper Position: Default 100%, adjustable in 10% increments.
    • Minimum Damper Position: Default 10%, adjustable in 10% increments.
    • Unit Number: Assigns a number (00-99) to identify the HVAC unit.
    • Zone Number: Assigns a number (00-99) to identify the thermostat's zone.
    • Heating Limit: Default 76°F (24.4°C), adjustable.
    • Cooling Limit: Default 68°F (20°C), adjustable.
    • Actuator Speed: Default 90 seconds, critical for proper damper operation. This setting should match the time it takes for the actuator to drive the damper blade fully open or closed.
    • Modbus Address: Default 01, for Modbus communications.
    • Temperature Calibration Offset: Default 0, adjustable +/- 9°F (5°C) for fine-tuning temperature readings.
  • Damper Position Override: An advanced feature for air balancing and bypass damper setup. With the thermostat unlocked, users can manually override the damper to OPEN or CLOSED positions. This override remains active until cancelled.

Maintenance Features:

  • Installation: The subbase is mounted on the wall, and control wires are pulled through. It's crucial to seal the wire hole to prevent drafts affecting the internal temperature sensor. Terminal screws should not be over-tightened.
  • Disassembly: A small coin (dime) can be used to gently twist the thermostat from its subbase via a release slot at the bottom. Care should be taken to avoid twisting the case to prevent damage to the LCD or terminal pin connectors.
  • Setup Saving: Settings are saved by pressing the ENTER key. If exiting the setup menu before completion, all settings up to that point are saved.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides detailed instructions for checking status points and configuring the thermostat, which aids in diagnosing and resolving operational issues.
  • Calibration: The temperature calibration offset can be adjusted if necessary, using a high-quality electronic digital thermometer as a reference.

The Z-2000-T is designed for efficient and effective installation and operation, with clear instructions provided to ensure proper setup and functionality.
