The function of the choke is to limit the short-circuit current for softer welding with a
minimum of welding spatter occurring.4
However, the choke also reduces arc-length self-regulation which, in case of low
current load of wire/ short arc), may cause arc instability. In this case it is
recommended to use half choke.
