6.3. SPEAKER OUTPUT AND DC INPUT CONNECTION
Using larger-gauge speaker connection cables improves the damping
factor (the amplier's ability to control the speaker coil), allowing for a
"drier" sound at low frequencies.
Thinner cables have greater internal resistance per meter, which is
added to the amplier's internal output impedance (very low), affecting
the sound quality at low frequencies. In addition, losses in the conductors
are also minimized by using larger gauge cables.
When connecting the DC power supply, using good connection cables
of the correct gauge makes a big difference to the sound installation,
minimizing power losses that cause the cables to overheat.
Therefore, to ensure the overall quality of the sound system, use the
minimum gauge recommended in the table below and, to protect the
system, use the fuse or circuit breaker with the maximum current specied
below.
