Do you have a question about the Konica Minolta CL-200A and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Konica Minolta CL-200A Chroma Meter is a compact, lightweight, and portable tristimulus colorimeter designed for measuring the color temperature, illuminance, and chromaticity of light sources. It is suitable for a wide range of applications, including research and development, quality control, and production in industries such as lighting, display, and automotive.

Function Description:

The CL-200A measures the tristimulus values X, Y, Z, which are then used to calculate various color parameters. These include illuminance (Ev), correlated color temperature (Tcp), and chromaticity coordinates (x, y, u', v'). The device can measure a wide range of illuminance, from 0.1 to 99,990 lx (chromaticity: 5 lx, 0.5 fcd or above). It features three detectors that closely match the CIE Standard Observer curves, ensuring accurate measurements. The CL-200A also offers a relative spectral response that conforms to the "general class AA" classification for illuminance meters.

Usage Features:

The CL-200A is designed for ease of use. It can be operated with two AA batteries for portability or with an optional AC adapter for extended use. The device features a clear, 4-digit LCD with backlight for easy reading of measurements.

  • Preparation: Before use, the receptor head needs to be attached to the main body. The device operates on two AA batteries, which are installed by sliding down the battery cover.
  • Power On/Off: The power switch is located on the side of the device. The device can be turned on by pressing the "O" button.
  • Zero Adjustment: The CL-200A performs zero adjustment automatically when powered on. If the display shows "CAL", it indicates that zero adjustment is in progress.
  • Calibration Modes: The CL-200A offers two calibration modes: NORM and MULTI. NORM is for standard illuminant A, while MULTI is for measurement with various spectral distributions. Correction Factors (CFs) can be set for both modes to improve accuracy.
  • Taking Color Measurements: Measurements are initiated by pressing the [MODE] button. The display shows Ev, x, and y values. The HOLD button can be used to freeze the display.
  • Color-Difference Measurements: The device can measure color differences between a sample color and a target color. This can be done by either measuring a target or manually inputting target values.
  • Correlated Color Temperature Measurement: The CL-200A can display color temperature values from 2300 to 20000 K.
  • External Power: An optional AC adapter (AC-A308 or AC-A311) can be used to power the device, which is useful for long-term measurements or when batteries are low.
  • Connecting to a Computer: The CL-200A can be connected to a personal computer using the standard T-A15 USB cable. The Konica Minolta CL-S10w data management software (available for download) allows for viewing measurement results in real time, controlling multi-point measurements, and managing CFs.
  • Multi-Point Measurement: The device supports multi-point measurements with up to 30 receptor heads using optional adapter units (T-A20 for main body, T-A21 for receptor head). This allows for simultaneous measurement of multiple points.
  • Printing: Measurement results can be printed using an optional T-A12 printer cable.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: The receptor window and display should be kept clean. A soft, dry cloth can be used for cleaning. For stubborn dirt, a cloth dampened with a mild detergent solution or alcohol can be used, followed by a dry cloth. Solvents like thinner or benzene should not be used.
  • Storage: The device should be stored in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, high temperatures, and high humidity. When storing for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
  • Battery Replacement: The device uses two AA batteries. When the battery mark appears on the display, or if the display becomes very dim, the batteries should be replaced. Fresh alkaline batteries provide approximately 72 hours of continuous measurements.
  • Error Messages: The CL-200A displays error messages (ErrU, ErrE, ErrA, ErrC) to indicate issues such as improper connection of the receptor head, EEPROM errors, out-of-range settings, or communication errors. Troubleshooting steps are provided in the manual for each error.
  • Service: In case of persistent issues or complex repairs, it is recommended to contact a Konica Minolta-authorized service facility.
