Sampling
This function lets you take a sound signal from out
side the synthesizer and store its waveform data in
memory. The sampled sound becomes the raw
material or sound1' for synthesis, but it can also be
used as is, right away. Sampling is the method to use
if you want a real musical instrument sound. It lets
you accurately reproduce complex harmonic
changes, like those that occur in the attack of piano
notes.
This is a digital recording technique like that used in
compact discs and digital delay devices. This works
by taking discrete samples or snapshots of an ac
tual sound signal, many thousands of times per se
cond (as determined by the sampling frequency). The
level of the signal in each sample is measured and
stored as digital data in wave memory.
Sampling frequency determines
how often samples are taken.
