CREATING SOUNDS
Sound Synthesis
Tj Basic arrangement of the DSS-1 and how it affects
the sound.
I As in a traditional analog synthesizer, the DSS-1
gives you the convenience of a subtractive technique
whereby the oscillators provide an audio signal which
is processed by the VCF and VCA.
This lets you consider the sound in terms of three
basic components which are pitch, timbre (or tone
color), and volume (or dynamics).

However, the DSS-1 is completely different from con
ventional subtractive synthesizers when it comes to
the source of the waveforms output by the oscillators.
Conventional analog synths only give you a few fixed
waveforms such as square waves and sawtooth
waves. With the DSS-1 you can use virtually any
waveform as the oscillator waveform.
This gives you incredible freedom and flexibility to
create the sounds that you want.
