Do you have a question about the Leica Lino P5 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Leica Lino P5 is a self-levelling, multifunctional point laser designed for a variety of tasks including levelling, plumbing, transferring, and setting out right angles. It provides precise vertical and horizontal five points (four points and one point in front of the device) arranged at 90° to each other, making it a reliable precision laser for job site applications.

Usage Features:

The Lino P5 is equipped with a levelling lock mechanism. In the unlocked position, the instrument automatically levels itself within its specified inclination range. This self-levelling function ensures accuracy for various tasks. When the levelling lock is engaged, the pendulum is fixed, and the self-levelling function is deactivated. This mode is useful for transporting the instrument or for tilting it beyond its self-levelling range, in which case the laser blinks every 5 seconds to indicate that it is locked.

The device features a keypad with a status LED and a laser key for ON/OFF operation. To switch the device on, simply press the laser key. To switch it off, press and hold the laser key for 2 seconds. The Lino P5 also includes an auto power-off function, which can be activated by placing the lock switch in the unlocked position and pressing and holding the On button for 5 seconds at startup. The status LED will blink 3 times in green to confirm activation. To deactivate this function, repeat the steps until the status LED blinks 3 times in red. This feature helps conserve battery life during extended periods of inactivity.

The Lino P5 offers various functions to project laser points. Pressing the laser key once activates a single horizontal dot. Pressing it twice activates two horizontal dots. Pressing it three times activates three vertical dots. The device is designed to check for self-levelling requirements and activate accordingly, ensuring accurate projections.

The Lino P5 can be used with smart adapters to enhance its versatility. The device can be snapped onto the Twist 360 adapter, allowing it to be rotated 360° around the plumb point to adjust the vertical line. For horizontal line adjustments, the UAL130 adapter can be used. Its adjustment knob allows for fine-tuning the horizontal line to the desired reference level, with a range of 130 mm (5.12 inches). The device also supports various fixing applications, including tripod mounting with 1/4" and 5/8" threads, and magnetic attachments for secure placement on metallic surfaces.

The Lino P5 can be powered by either a Li-Ion battery pack (optional) or three alkaline AA batteries. When using the Li-Ion battery, it should be charged before first use. The charging process is indicated by a green light on the Li-Ion status LED, which turns off once charging is complete. The battery pack is inserted by pressing it down and tilting it into the housing until it snaps into place. For alkaline batteries, high-quality ones are recommended for reliable use. The alkaline batteries are inserted into the battery-pack, which is then placed into the device in the same manner as the Li-Ion battery pack.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for ensuring the precision and longevity of the Leica Lino P5. The device should never be immersed in water. For cleaning, a damp soft cloth should be used to wipe off dirt, avoiding aggressive cleaning agents or solvents. The instrument should be handled with care, similar to binoculars or a camera, as dropping or violent shaking can cause damage. Regular checks of the instrument for any damage and verification of its levelling accuracy are recommended.

To maintain optimal precision and visibility, the optics of the device should be cleaned regularly. Dust should be blown off the glasses without touching them with fingers. If necessary, a damp soft cloth and a small amount of pure alcohol can be used.

The smart adapters also require regular cleaning to prevent wrong measurements and ensure smooth operation. The interface between the adapter and the device should always be clean to enable easy rotation. For cleaning magnetic surfaces, compressed air or modelling clay can be used. If the equipment gets wet, it should be thoroughly dried (at a maximum of 70°C/158°F) before being repacked into its case.

The Leica Lino P5 comes with a two-year international limited warranty from Leica Geosystems AG. An additional year of warranty can be obtained by registering the product on the Leica Geosystems website within eight weeks of the purchase date. If the product is not registered, the standard two-year warranty applies.

Leica Geosystems recommends checking the device at regular intervals, at least once a year, to ensure its function and reliability meet standards and requirements. In case of damage, users should never attempt to repair the device themselves. For calibration or repair services, users should contact a local dealer or an authorized Leica Geosystems distributor.
