Thischapterprovidesinformationaboutturningonandturningofftheserver.

Turningontheserver

Theservercanbeturnedoninoneofthefollowingways:

•Afteryouﬁnishunpackingandsettinguptheserver,connectittoanacpowersource.Pressthepower

buttononthefrontpaneltoturnontheserver.See“Frontpanel”onpage19

.Theserverneedsabout

30secondsfortheTMMtoinitializewheneveryouconnecttheservertoanacpowersource.Ifyou

pressthepowerbuttononthefrontpanelduringthisperiod,theserverwillnotstartimmediately;itwill

startaftertheTMMinitializationﬁnishes.

•WhentheWakeonLANfeatureisenabledontheserverthatisconnectedtoanacpowersourceanda

LAN,anetworkadministratorcanremotelyturnonorwakeuptheserverfromamanagementconsole

usingremotenetworkmanagementsoftware.

•YoualsocanusetherelatedTMMfeaturetoremotelyturnontheserverthroughthemanagementLAN.

Turningofftheserver

CAUTION:

Thepowercontrolbuttononthedeviceandthepowerswitchonthepowersupplydonotturnoff

theelectricalcurrentsuppliedtothedevice.Thedevicealsomighthavemorethanonepower

cord.Toremoveallelectricalcurrentfromthedevice,ensurethatallpowercordsaredisconnected

fromthepowersource.

Theservercanbeturnedoffinoneofthefollowingways:

•Turnofftheserverfromtheoperatingsystemifyouroperatingsystemsupportsthisfeature.Afteran

orderlyshutdownoftheoperatingsystem,theserverwillturnoffautomatically.Forinstructionsonhow

toshutdownyourspeciﬁcoperatingsystem,refertotherelateddocumentationorhelpsystemfor

theoperatingsystem.

•Pressthepowerbuttononthefrontpaneltostartanorderlyshutdownoftheoperatingsystemandturn

offtheserver,ifyouroperatingsystemsupportsthisfeature.

•Ifyourserverstopsrespondingandyoucannotturnitoff,pressandholdthepowerbuttononthe

frontpanelforfoursecondsormore.Ifyoustillcannotturnofftheserver,disconnectallpowercords

fromtheserver.

•IftheserverisconnectedtoaLAN,anetworkadministratorcanremotelyturnofftheserverfroma

managementconsoleusingremotenetworkmanagementsoftware.

•YoualsocanusetherelatedTMMfeaturetoremotelyturnofftheserverthroughthemanagementLAN.
