Creating,adding,ordeletingaRAIDarray
Thistopicprovidesinstructionsonhowtocreate,add,ordeleteaRAIDarrayusingtheLSISoftwareRAID

Note:BeforeyoucreateaRAIDarrayusingtheLSISoftwareRAIDConfigurationUtilityprogram,ensurethat
theservermeetstherequiredhardwareconfiguration.Forexample,theserverneedstohavetherequired

Tocreate,add,ordeleteaRAIDarrayusingtheLSISoftwareRAIDConfigurationUtilityprogram,dothe
following:
1.StarttheLSISoftwareRAIDConfigurationUtilityprogram.See“StartingtheLSISoftwareRAID
ConfigurationUtilityprogram”onpage65.
2.Onthemaininterfaceoftheprogram,dooneofthefollowingdependingonyourneeds:
IfyouwanttocreateaRAIDarray,selectEasyConfigurationandthenfollowtheinstructionson
thescreen.
IfyouwanttoaddasecondaryRAIDarray(ifsupportedbyyourserver),selectView/Add
Configurationandthenfollowtheinstructionsonthescreentoviewthecurrentconfigurationand
addaRAIDarray.
IfyouwanttodeletetheexistingRAIDarray,exittheprogramandbackupallyourdataonthe
harddiskdrives.Afterbackingupallyourdata,entertheprogrammaininterfaceandselectClear
Configuration.SelectYeswhenpromptedandfollowtheinstructionsonthescreen.
Attention:DeletinganexistingRAIDarrayerasesalldataonthearray.Ensurethatyoubackupall
databeforedeletingtheRAIDarray.IftheoperatingsystemisinstalledontheRAIDarrayyouwantto
delete,youneedtoreinstalltheoperatingsystemafterdeletingtheRAIDarray.
IfyouwanttodeletetheexistingRAIDarrayandcreateaRAIDarray,exittheprogramandback
upallyourdataontheharddiskdrives.Afterbackingupallyourdata,entertheprogrammain
interfaceandselectNewConfiguration.SelectYeswhenpromptedtoproceedandthenfollowthe
instructionsonthescreen.
Attention:DeletinganexistingRAIDarrayerasesalldataonthearray.Ensurethatyoubackupall
databeforedeletingtheRAIDarray.IftheoperatingsystemisinstalledontheRAIDarrayyouwantto
delete,youneedtoreinstalltheoperatingsystemafterdeletingtheRAIDarray.
Initializingavirtualdrive
ThistopicprovidesinstructionsonhowtoinitializeavirtualdriveusingtheLSISoftwareRAIDConfiguration
Utilityprogramaftercompletingtheconfigurationprocess.
Virtualdriveinitializationistheprocessofwritingzerostothedatafieldsofavirtualdriveand,infault-tolerant
RAIDlevels,generatingthecorrespondingparitytoputthevirtualdriveinareadystate.Initializationerases
alldataonthevirtualdrive.Drivegroupswillworkwithoutbeinginitialized,buttheycanfailaconsistency
checkbecausetheparityfieldshavenotbeengenerated.
Notes:
Ensurethatyoubackupanydatayouwanttokeepbeforeinitializingavirtualdrive.
Ensurethattheoperatingsystemisnotinstalledonthevirtualdriveyouareinitializing.Otherwise,you
needtoreinstalltheoperatingsystemafterinitializingthevirtualdrive.
