If the welder starts but doesn't generate current, it could be due to: loose or missing generator or exciter brushes; the exciter not operating; an open field circuit in the generator or exciter; the exciter having lost excitation; an open-circuited series field and armature circuit; or faulty wiring, terminal connections to the control PCB, or a faulty control PCB.
