The TS30 90° is a touch probe designed for tool presetting, manufactured by Marposs S.p.A. This device is intended for use in industrial environments and is connected to a SELV type 24 Vdc power supply. It is designed to be mounted on a machine table and is suitable for integration with a Marposs Mida TT30 probe system.
Function Description
The TS30 90° touch probe serves as a tool setter, providing precise measurements for tool presetting on machining centres. Its primary functions include:
- Tool integrity check: Verifying the condition of the tool.
- Tool length and diameter measurement: Accurately determining the dimensions of the tool.
- Tool wear compensation: Adjusting for tool wear to maintain measurement accuracy.
The probe operates by making contact with the tool, and its status is indicated by LEDs:
- Switched off Led: System not Powered.
- Green Led: System Powered with stylus in rest position.
- Orange Led: System Powered with deflected stylus.
The signals between the probe and the machine control are processed by an integrated probe interface. An optional air blower can be fitted to the rear of the probe body to prevent the presence of waste materials generated by the machining process from compromising measurement conditions. The air blower is available in two versions: standard and optimized.

Usage Features
The installation process for the TS30 90° involves several key steps:
Mounting on the Machine Table:
- Positioning the base: The base (A) is positioned on the machine table and secured by tightening the central screw (B). During this phase, the base is broadly aligned (100-200 µm) with one of the machine axes, using a gauge/set square on the straight part of the base.
- Mounting the probe body: The probe body (C) is mounted on the base (A), ensuring that the two tapered holes on the lower part are aligned with the two ball bearings (S1 and S2) on the base.
- Securing the body: The body is secured in position using two screws (D1 and D2), which are tightened.
Mounting the Stylus and Crash Protection Pin:
- Warning: Use the wrenches supplied with the probe kit. Partially tighten the grub screws that secure the arm to the shear pin so that it is free to rotate under friction.
- Positioning the shear pin: The shear pin (E) is positioned in its housing and screwed into place, inserting the protection device (A) at the same time.
- Inserting the contact support: The contact support (C) is inserted and screwed into place.
- Securing the contact support: The contact support (C) is secured to the protection device (A) using the screw (D).
- Inserting the contact: The contact (E) is inserted in the support (C) and secured using the screw (F).
Mounting the Air Blower (if present):
- Positioning the air blower: The air blower (A) is positioned on the rear part of the probe body, aligning it with the two mounting holes (B).
- Adjusting the blower: The blower is adjusted so that it is positioned correctly, and the screws (C) are used to secure it.
Aligning the TS30 90° System:
- Alignment with cylindrical contact:
- A comparator gauge is positioned on the upper part of the plate, and the upper surface of the contact is aligned by adjusting the two screws D1 and D2, alternately.
- Once an acceptable value has been achieved (≤ 5 µm), the two screws (D1 and D2) are tightened to a torque of 5 Nm.
- The comparator gauge is positioned on the upper part of the plate, and the face of the contact is aligned by adjusting the two grub screws E1 and E2, alternately.
- Once an acceptable value has been achieved (≤ 5 µm), the two screws (E1 and E2) are tightened to a torque of 0.8 Nm.
- Alignment with cubic contact: The procedure is identical to the cylindrical contact alignment, using screws D1, D2, E1, and E2 with the same torque specifications.
- Final alignment: At this point, if necessary, the alignment of the other two faces of the plate is refined by adjusting the two screws F1 and F2 that secure the contact to its support.
Electrical Connections:
The integrated interface in the probe support can be used to connect it directly to the machine.
- Warning: To guarantee protection against the propagation of flames along the connection cable, it is recommended to connect it to a power supply with the output current limited to 5 A. If this is not possible, a 5 A fuse should be fitted on the conductor connected to the 24 VDC supply (white or green cable, depending on whether NC or NO configuration is in use). A normal or slow blow fuse should be used (not fast blow).
- N.O. - N.C. Touch connections: The manual provides diagrams for both Normally Open (N.O.) and Normally Closed (N.C.) configurations, detailing the wiring for 24V Green, 0 Vcc White (or Yellow), Blue SSR, and Red SSR.
Maintenance Features
Regular maintenance is essential to ensure the best possible performance from the TS30 90° system and to carry out regular cleaning and checks.
Ordinary Maintenance:
- Prevent chips from building up: Ensure that chips do not accumulate around the probe.
- Check cables and terminals: Regularly check the integrity of the cables and whether the electric terminals are tight.
Extraordinary Maintenance:
Replacing the stylus and/or protection pin:
- Unscrew the fixing screws (A) and remove the stylus (B) from the support (D).
