PROBLEM CAUSE SOLUTION
x Continuous running with very low load.
Increase load and have the engine run for a few
hours
 Wrong measurement. Check if the load is measured correctly. Does the Amp meter show
the correct value? When calculating the load by multiplying voltage and amps this should be
done by using the exact values, taking into account the power factor of the consumers. When
any doubt, measure the power directly with an appropriate instrument.
x Overfull oil sump.
Bring the oil to the correct level
x Choked fuel filter.
Replace the fuel filter.
x Choked air filter.
Check air inlet openings; clean air filter.
x Exhaust blocked.
Check the exhaust system.
x Injector blocked.
Have the injector checked.
x Loss of compression, sticking or
damaged piston ring.
Have the compression measured.
Clean or replace the rings.
Loss of power
x Wear out of cylinder.
Have the compression measured and have the
engine overhauled.
x Overload.
Take away the overload.
x Low level of coolant or air in the
cooling system
Fill up with coolant and release air bubbles.
Check if there are air blocks in the system; refer
to the installation manual
x Broken impeller.
x Radiator choked by dirt
x Hot air circulation in radiator.
Check the cooling system thoroughly.
Clean radiator
x Broken or slipping V-belt.
Replace and adjust the V-belt tension.
Over-temperature
x Faulty thermostat
Check the thermostat or replace.
5.2.3 Warnings
Generator must be shut off immediately if:
 Motor RPM suddenly rises or drops.
 Unusual noise comes from generating set.
 Exhaust gases suddenly colour dark.
 Engine failure warning light is on
