Overview

The SETU VFXTH is a multi-port SIP-based VoIP to FXO-FXS Gateway, designed to facilitate communication between VoIP networks and traditional analog telephone lines (FXO) or analog telephone instruments (FXS). This Quick Start guide provides essential information for installing, configuring, and operating the device, while the comprehensive System Manual offers advanced configuration and feature descriptions.

Function Description:

The SETU VFXTH acts as a bridge, converting SIP-based VoIP calls to analog signals for FXO ports (connecting to PSTN lines or PBXs) and FXS ports (connecting to standard analog telephone instruments or fax machines). It supports various configurations, ranging from 16 to 32 SIP Trunks, with different combinations of FXO and FXS ports. For instance, models like SETU VFXTH0016 and SETU VFXTH0024 offer 16 and 24 FXS ports respectively, without FXO ports, while SETU VFXTH1600 and SETU VFXTH3200 provide 16 and 32 FXO ports, respectively, without FXS ports. Hybrid models like SETU VFXTH0808 offer a mix of 8 FXO and 8 FXS ports, and SETU VFXTH1616 provides 16 FXO and 16 FXS ports. This flexibility allows the device to be deployed in diverse environments, from small offices integrating VoIP with existing analog infrastructure to larger setups requiring a blend of analog and digital connectivity.

The device features a Reset Button for system restart or restoring default IP settings, an Ethernet Port (RJ45) for connecting to an IP network (DSL Modem, Router, or LAN Switch), and RJ11 ports for FXO/FXS connections. The power input is a 24VDC, 2.5A (Max) DC Jack.

Usage Features:

The SETU VFXTH is designed for ease of installation and operation. It comes with a built-in web server named "Jeeves," which provides a Graphic User Interface (GUI) for configuration. This allows for both on-site and remote management of system parameters and features.

Connecting to the IP Network:

Before connecting to a Wide Area Network (WAN), it is recommended to first connect a computer directly to the Ethernet Port of the SETU VFXTH to configure basic settings. The device can be connected to either a Public IP Network (via a DSL modem/router) or a Private Network (behind a NAT router, via a LAN Switch/Hub). The default IP Address for the Ethernet Port is 192.168.1.100, with a default Subnet Mask of 255.255.255.0. Users should ensure their computer's IP address and subnet mask do not conflict with the device's settings.

Connecting to the CO Network:

FXO ports are used to connect to Trunk Lines from the CO Network or a PBX, using standard RJ11 twisted-pair cables.

Connecting Telephone Instruments:

FXS ports are used to connect analog single-line telephone instruments, fax machines, or a PBX, also using standard RJ11 twisted-pair cables.

Powering ON and Reset Cycle:

To power on the device, connect the power adapter to the SETU VFXTH and then to a power outlet. Switch on the power supply and allow approximately 2 minutes for the Reset Cycle (Power-ON Self Test) to complete.

LED Indications:

The device includes various LEDs to indicate its status:

  • PWR (Power LED): Turns on (continuous green) when power is supplied.
  • STS (Status LED): Blinks to indicate the health of the system (dual color).
  • P01 to P32 (Port LEDs): These LEDs indicate the status of individual FXS/FXO ports. During an off-hook state, an FXS Port LED glows red continuously. If a port is in programming mode, its LED glows green continuously, turning red again upon exiting programming mode (to indicate off-hook state). During the initialization process, a specific sequence of LED blinks for P01-P32 indicates the application load and when the system goes live.

Accessing Jeeves (Web-based Configuration):

To access Jeeves, open a web browser (Internet Explorer 7+ or Mozilla Firefox 3.5+) on a computer connected to the SETU VFXTH's Ethernet Port. Enter the default IP address (192.168.1.100) in the address bar. The system will redirect to HTTPS for security. The default SE Password for login is "1234". Upon initial login, users are prompted to change this default password for security reasons. The new password must be between 6 and 16 characters, include at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, one number, and one special character (excluding %, =, #, +, &, , <, >, ", ' and space).

Configuration Methods:

Jeeves offers two primary methods for configuration:

  1. Using the Wizard: This step-by-step guide walks users through the basic settings. It features "Next" and "Back" buttons for navigation, saving changes on the current page when "Next" is pressed. A "Quit" button allows exiting the Wizard at any point, saving changes made.
  2. Using Selective Configuration: This method allows users to choose specific parameters to configure in any desired order. The left navigation bar displays links for "Basic Settings," "Advanced Settings," "Maintenance," and "Status." Expanding these links reveals sub-links for specific parameters.

Configuration Interface Elements:

  • Expand (+): Expands a link to display all parameters.
  • Collapse (-): Collapses a link, hiding parameters.
  • Settings (→): Enables configuration/editing of a parameter.
  • Default: Assigns factory set values to all parameters on a page.
  • Add: Enables adding a new record/entry.
  • Delete: Enables deleting a record/entry.
  • Close: Enables exiting a window.
  • Submit: Saves the set parameters on a page.
  • Logout (X): Exits Jeeves.

Maintenance Features:

The "Maintenance" section within Jeeves allows users to perform system maintenance and monitoring activities. This includes uploading configuration files and firmware, debugging, and restarting the system.

The "Status" section provides detailed information about the system, including the status of all SIP Trunks, FXO/FXS Ports, the Ethernet Port, and the system's firmware version.

Documentation and Support:

The Quick Start guide provides basic installation and configuration steps. For advanced features and detailed instructions, users are directed to the System Manual, which can be downloaded from the Matrix Telecom Solutions website or accessed by scanning a QR code on the product label. Product registration and warranty information are also available online.

Environmental and Safety Considerations:

The device should not be installed in areas exposed to direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, humidity, dust, oil, corrosive fumes, or water sources. It should also be kept away from sources of electromagnetic noise. Proper electrical and telecom earthing are crucial for safety. Users should wear an electro-static discharge preventive wrist wrap or belt and use a grounding mat when handling the product and its parts. The SETU VFXTH contains a 3.3V DC Manganese Lithium Battery (ML 2032-Rechargeable) which should only be replaced by authorized Matrix dealers to avoid explosion risk. Used batteries must be disposed of properly.
