TROUBLESHOOTING

Engine Runs Rough, Hard to Start, Misses, and/or
Backfires
Possible Cause Remedy
Faulty ignition system component. Service ignition system.
Clogged fuel filter. Replace filters.
Stale or contaminated fuel.
If contaminated, drain tank. Fill with
fresh fuel.
Kinked or clogged fuel line or fuel tank
vent line.
Replace kinked lines or blow out
lines with compressed air to remove
obstruction.
Flame arrestor plugged. Clean or replace the flame arrestor.
Rev limiter engaging at
wide‑open‑throttle.
Change to propeller with more pitch.
Manifold Air Pressure (MAP) sensor
failure.
Test MAP sensor and replace if
faulty.
Poor Performance
Possible Cause Remedy
Throttle not fully open.
Inspect throttle cable and linkages for
proper operation.
Damaged or wrong propeller. Replace propeller.
Excessive bilge water. Drain and check for cause of entry.
Boat overloaded or load improperly
distributed.
Reduce load or redistribute load more
evenly.
Boat bottom fouled or damaged. Clean or repair as necessary.
Flame arrestor dirty. Change or clean flame arrestor.
Supercharger not creating boost.
Check supercharger belt, determine
cause for low boost.
Manifold Air Pressure (MAP) sensor
failure.
Test MAP sensor and replace if faulty.
