FILL.IN FLASH
Often
when taking
pictures
in
direct
sunlight, the
shadows on
the
subject appear
too
dark.
One
way
to
lighten these
shadows is to
fire
an
electronic
flash
unit to
"fill-in"
(lighten)
the
shadow. Another
name
for
fill-in flash is
"synchro-sun"
flash.
The
Flash Meter IV's
memory
function
lets
you
store
and
compare
separate
measurements
of
ambient
light
(using
"AMB
l"
mode)
and
f
lash light
(using
"CORD"
or
"NON.C"
mode). Then by
pressing
the
On/Recall
key,
you
can
compare
the
measurements,
and adjust
the
f
lash.
Usually
only a small
amount
of
flash light
is
needed
to
fill in
the
shadows.
A
good
starting
point
is
to
use
about
two stops
less
flash light
than
the
am
bient light. With
experience,
you
can
vary
the
amount
of
fill-in flash
according
to
your
needs.
The
following
steps
explain
how
to
make
fill-flash
measurements
using incident-l
ight readings, but
reflected-light
readings
can
also
be taken.
To make
fill-in flash
measurements:

reappears
when
you
release
