B. Laser head board
The laserhead interfaceboardprovidesconnectionbreakout tothelaser
diode,TEC,sensor,piezoactuators,andlaserheadinterlock. Italsoin-
cludesa protection relayand passiveprotection filters, a laser-onLED
indicator, and an SMAconnection for direct diode current modulation.
Several versions of the laser headboard are available.
MOGLabslasersarebuiltwithaT-shapedheadboard, usingHiroseDF59
“swing-lock”wire-to-boardconnectors(DigikeyH11958-NDandH11957CT-
NDplug andcrimppin). The B1047headboardprovideshighbandwidth
active currentmodulationfor widebandwidthfrequency stabilisationand
linewidthnarrowing, for example using ahighfinesseoptical cavity or
polarisationspectroscopy. HigherbandwidthisprovidedbytheB1240
headboardwhichfurtherincreasesbandwidthandreducesphasedelay,to
allowsub-Hzlinewidthnarrowing.TheB1240islimitedtolowcompliance
voltage laserdiodes(redandinfrared);the B1047mustbeusedforblue
diodes. B1045andB1046headboardsprovideRF modulationviaanRF
biasteeallowingmodulationupto2.5GHz, forexampleto addsidebands
for repumping, or to add noise for coherence control.
In all cases, there is no provision for the internal photodiode in many
consumer-grade laser diodes.
