ADJUSTING THE BELT TENSION
CAUTION:
BEFORE ADJUSTING BELTS
GENERAL MAINTENANCE
Remove ignition key and coil wire (on gaso-
line powered units.)
To check for proper tension of belts, refer to the
V-Belt tension gauge on page 42
To adjust the chipper belt tension, follow these
steps:
1. Remove ignition key & coil wire (on
gasoline power units).
NOTE: ALWAYS USE LOCK OUT
PROCEDURES
2. Remove the belt shield.
3. Loosen the engine bolts (one bolt
located on each corner of engine
mounting plate).
4. Adjust chipper belt with the belt
tightening bolts to get proper belt
tension.
5. Tighten 5/8"-11 engine bolts to proper
torque. (Refer to torque chart on pg. 36)
NOTE: Adjust both sides evenly to ensure
proper sheave alignment.
6. Whenever the belt shield is removed
for service, replace it after you have
finished. Shields are built for your
protection. Use them.
Inspect chipper drive belts hourly during the
first week of operation and weekly thereaf-
ter.
Loosen and take off all necessary Guards.
Loosen the Engine Mounting Bolts.
Adjust the Chipper Belt Tension
Replace all Guards.
