It is rare, but your communicator (PIC) may generate sparks. Communicator
(PIC)s have internal electronic circu its which may be oper ational even when
the d evice is turned OFF or the battery removed.
Areas with a potentially explosive atmosphere are o ften, but not always,
clearly ma rked and include the following:
• Gas stations
• Below deck on boats
• Fuel or chemical trans fer/storage facilities
• Areas where air may contain chemicals or particles, such as grain, dust, or
metal powders
• Any area where you would norm ally be advised to turn O FF your mo tor
vehicle.
Do no t transport or store flammable gas, liquid, or explosives in the
compartment of your vehicle that contains your communicator (PIC). Vehicles
using liq uefied pe troleum gas (such as propane or butane) must comply with
the National Fir e Pr otection Standard (MFPA-58). For a copy o f this standard,
