Overview

The MRC LX-1102 Light Meter is a precision instrument designed for measuring light intensity across a wide range. It features a separate light sensor, allowing for optimal positioning during measurements, and a robust design with a water-resistant front panel and rubber keys for function selection. The device utilizes a microprocessor circuit to ensure high accuracy and offers various special functions and features, making it suitable for diverse applications requiring precise light measurement.

Function Description:

The primary function of the LX-1102 Light Meter is to measure illuminance in both Lux and Foot-candle (Ft-cd) units. It offers five distinct measuring ranges, from 40.00 Lux up to 400,000 Lux, and corresponding Foot-candle ranges. The device is equipped with an exclusive photo diode and color correction filter, ensuring its spectrum meets C.I.E. photopic standards, and its cosine correction factor meets industry standards.

Key operational features include:

  • Zero Adjustment: A dedicated button allows for external zero adjustment, specifically for the 40.00 Lux range, to ensure precision.
  • Data Hold: This function freezes the current display value, indicated by a "HOLD" symbol on the LCD, for easy recording.
  • Peak Hold: The meter can capture and display the maximum peak value measured. This function can be cleared to capture new peak values.
  • Data Record (Max./Min. Reading): The device can record and display the maximum ("REC Max") and minimum ("REC Min") readings over a measurement period. This is indicated by a "REC" symbol on the display.
  • Unit Selection: Users can easily switch between Lux and Foot-candle units using a dedicated button.
  • Range Selection: A range button allows users to select the appropriate measuring range. The display indicates overload ("----") or under-range ("____") conditions, prompting the user to select a higher or lower range, respectively, to achieve higher resolution and accuracy.
  • Auto Power Off: To conserve battery life, the instrument automatically shuts off after approximately 10 minutes of inactivity. This feature can be disabled by initiating the data record function.
  • RS-232 PC Serial Interface: The meter includes an RS-232 output for connecting to a PC, allowing for serial data transfer.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Display: Large LCD (52 x 38 mm, 4 digits) with a bar graph indicator.
  • Measuring Ranges:
    • Lux: 40.00, 400.0, 4,000, 40,000, 400,000 Lux.
    • Foot-candle: 4.000, 40.00, 400.0, 4,000, 40,000 Ft-cd.
  • Resolution:
    • Lux: 0.01 Lux (40.00 Lux range) to 100 Lux (400,000 Lux range).
    • Foot-candle: 0.001 Ft-cd (4.000 Fc range) to 10 Ft-cd (40,000 Fc range).
  • Accuracy (at 23±5 ℃, with standard parallel light tungsten lamp of 2856 K):
    • Lux: ± (3% rdg + 0.5% F.S.) for ranges up to 100,000 Lux. Above 100,000 Lux, it's for reference only.
    • Foot-candle: ± (3% rdg + 0.5% F.S.) for ranges up to 9,300 Fc. Above 9,300 Fc, it's for reference only.
  • Sensor: Exclusive photo diode & color correction filter, meeting C.I.E. photopic spectrum and standard cosine correction factor.
  • Data Output: RS-232 serial data output (16-digit stream).
  • Operating Temperature: 0 to 50 °C (32 to 122 °F).
  • Operating Humidity: Less than 80% RH.
  • Power Supply: DC 9V battery (006P, MN1604 or equivalent).
  • Power Consumption: Approx. DC 8 mA.
  • Dimensions:
    • Main instrument: 200 x 68 x 30 mm (7.9 x 2.7 x 1.2 inch).
    • Light Sensor probe: 82 x 55 x 7 mm (3.2 x 2.2 x 0.3 inch).
  • Weight: 220 g (0.48 LB).
  • Accessories: Instruction Manual (1 PC), Light Sensor with protection cover (1 PC).

Usage Features:

The LX-1102 is designed for user-friendly operation. Its separate light sensor allows for flexible placement, enabling measurements in various lighting conditions without needing to reposition the main instrument. The large LCD with a bar graph provides clear and immediate feedback on readings. Rubber keys enhance durability and tactile feedback. The microprocessor circuit not only ensures accuracy but also supports advanced functions like data hold, peak hold, and data recording, which are essential for detailed analysis and documentation. The compact size makes it portable and easy to handle.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Replacement: The device indicates a low battery condition with a symbol in the left corner of the LCD. Although it can still operate for several hours after the indicator appears, it is recommended to replace the 9V battery (Alkaline or Heavy duty type) promptly. The battery compartment is easily accessible by sliding off the cover.
  • Durability: The LSI circuit contributes to high reliability and durability. The water-resistant front panel adds to the instrument's robustness, protecting it from splashes and ensuring longevity in various environments.
  • Sensor Protection: The light sensor comes with a protection cover, which should be used when performing zero adjustment and when the instrument is not in use, to prevent damage and maintain calibration.
