Fault Cause Solution
Rotor blocked by an obstruction.
Carefully remove obstruction.
Rotor fails to turn
Freewheel incorrectly mounted in
the P.T.O. shaft or gearbox –
freewheel disengages
Change freewheel in the P.T.O.
shaft or gearbox or remount it
Drive shaft turns but not rotor Drive belts torn.
Replace complete set of drive
belts.
Support roller bearing dirty or
damaged.
Replace bearing and grease new
bearing well until grease starts to
exude.
Support roller is stiff or stuck
Running dry, no grease.
Re-grease bearing until grease
starts to exude.
Drive belt too slack.
Check drive belt tension and
retighten as necessary
Drive belt pulleys out of alignment.
Check alignment and adjust as
necessary
Drive belt problems ( too much belt
wear, belts overheat, start to
smoke, reduction in power
transmission)
Cutting height too low.
Lower the support roller/wheels
and /or adjust the toplinkage.
Oil level too low Top up oil
Oil too old Carry out oil change
Gearbox runs hot
Rotor / mulcher struggles to cope
Drive more slowly and/or set back-
up roller lower
Oil loss from gearbox or extension
shaft
Sealing rings damaged or worn. Replace sealing ring.
Cutting height too low.
Lower the support roller/wheels
and /or adjust the toplinkage.
Excessive cutting tool wear.
Spares not original Use original Müthing cutting flails.
Drive elements fractured
Mulcher started too quickly or
damaged by foreign body
Replace the damaged item and
take more care with the mulcher in
future.
