Oil level checks and oil changes
The gearbox fitted to your Müthing mulcher runs in an oil bath.
The oil level
in the gearbox is correct when it is half-way up the gearbox.
If the gearbox is underfull it can overheat and/or run dry and cause damage, while too much oil can
also cause damage, in extreme cases destroying the gearbox.
The gearbox has an oil-level check plug, which is mounted half-way up the gearbox housing.
The gearbox also has an oil and ventilation screw and underneath a drain plug.
(You can find the precise positions of the screws for your machine on the gearbox diagram and
the relevant parts description in the replacement parts list.)
Oil level check on gearbox:
→ Lower the mulcher, remove it from the tractor, bring it into a horizontal position and
support it with the support leg.
→ Remove the oil level check plug from the side of the gearbox, placing a container
under the gearbox to catch any leakage). )
→ If the level is too high allow the excess oil to run out.
→ If the level is low, top up the oil level until oil starts to run out (see next page).
→ Replace the oil level check plug and screw it tight.
→ Dispose of any leaked oil properly.
Topping up oil in the gearbox:
→ Lower the mulcher, remove it from the tractor, bring it into a horizontal position and
support it with the support leg.
→ Remove the oil level check plug from the side of the gearbox, placing a container
under the gearbox to catch any leakage). )
→ Remove the filling plug and, using a suitable funnel, top up with SAE 90 EP or SAE
140 gearbox oil, taking care not to overfill.
→ If it has been overfilled, allow the excess oil to run out until it reaches the level of the
check plug.
→ Replace the oil level check plug and the filling plug and fasten them tightly.
→ Dispose of any leaked oil properly.
