Overview

The WMF 1500S+ is a commercial coffee machine, designed for professional use, offering a range of features for beverage preparation, maintenance, and service. This service manual provides comprehensive information for technicians regarding its installation, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance.

Function Description:

The WMF 1500S+ is an advanced coffee machine capable of preparing a variety of beverages, including espresso and milk-based drinks. It features multiple grinders, a brewing unit, and a sophisticated power supply system. The machine is designed for ease of use and maintenance, with a focus on consistent beverage quality and operational efficiency. It incorporates "Dynamic Coffee Assist" for automatic monitoring and adjustment of espresso beverages, ensuring optimal brewing flow. The machine's front panel serves as the primary interface for operation and service, featuring a 10-inch capacitive touchscreen display.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Grinders: The machine is equipped with two types of grinders:
    • Right grinder (33 7006 4704): Preset to grinding degree 1 (espresso grind), with a discharge rate of approximately 2.2 g/s and a grain size distribution of about 470 µm.
    • Center-left grinder (33 7006 4703): Preset to grinding degree 5 (crème grind), with a discharge rate of approximately 2.6 g/s and a grain size distribution of about 640 µm.
  • Brewing Unit: Available in two versions:
    • With aperture (33 2893 0399): Used in WMF 1500S+, WMF 1100S, WMF 1200S, and presto models. Features a removable brew aperture for cleaning.
    • Without aperture (33 2893 0499): Used in WMF 1500S+ with FFC (Fresh Filtered Coffee) models.
    • The brewing unit housing color is brown, differentiating it from older dark-red units.
  • Power Supply (33 2628 3100): Operates at either 115 V (jumper at J5) or 230 V input voltage. Converts unstabilized input voltage to stabilized 5 V, 24 V, and 30 V DC voltages. Includes protection against overcurrent and short circuits. If an error is detected 6 times within one minute, the power supply shuts off and requires a brief disconnection from the grid to reset.
  • Power Stage (33 4099 0099): Used in WMF 1500S+, WMF 5000S+, WMF 9000S+, WMF 9000F, and syrup accessory equipment. Features 10 current sensors and a current detector for protection against overcurrent and short circuits. Outputs for the brewer motor are non-locking, while all other outputs are short-circuit resistant.
  • Front Panel Platform (33 4126 0099): Integrates a CPU, a 10-inch display with sensor glass and capacitive touch, a Micro-SD Card, Ethernet connection, and two USB connections. The Micro-SD card stores all data, including software updates, beverage settings, counters, and maintenance data, with daily data backups performed after switch-on.
  • Water Filter: Recommended when carbonate hardness exceeds 5 °dKH. The bestmax M filter is recommended for the WMF 1500S+.
  • Pressure Reducer Setting: Preset to 1.5 bar (+0.4/-0.3 bar) flow pressure. The safety assembly complete (33 2822 7499) is used as a spare part.

Usage Features:

  • Initial Commissioning: A guided "Technician's Intro" ensures mandatory basic settings are configured, aiming for a simple start-up and high-quality beverage output. This includes setting the time zone, automatic summer/winter time, language, and machine configuration.
  • Grinding Degree Adjustment: The grinding degree can be set mechanically and electrically. Mechanical setting involves turning the disks until seated together. Electrical setting is done via the service menu (Service > Machine data > Enter grinding degree setting) and further adjusted under System > Grinding degree setting.
  • Dynamic Coffee Assist: Automatically monitors and adjusts espresso beverages to maintain a brewing flow of 3-5 ml/s. This involves setting Q levels, adjusting grinding degree, and wet-pressing values.
  • Beverage Customization: The machine allows for detailed recipe adjustments, as shown in the example of Latte Macchiato settings.
  • Front Panel Interface: The 10-inch touchscreen display provides intuitive access to all machine functions and settings. USB slots allow for connecting a mouse or keyboard for easier data entry.

Maintenance Features:

  • Service Routines: The machine offers various service routines accessible via the service menu, including:
    • Pressure Reducer Setting: Allows checking and adjusting the flow pressure using a testing tool.
    • Grinder Disk Replacement: Includes a counter reset function (Service > Service date > Grinder 1 grinder disks / Grinder 2 grinder disks > Confirm maintenance).
    • Panel Updater: An auxiliary program for programming new or used front panels with machine-specific software and restoring data from a microSD card.
    • Antifreeze Protection/Transport Preparation: A routine to partially empty the boiler water system and safety assembly, preventing frost damage during shipping in winter months.
    • Descaling: A display-guided routine for descaling the machine, which can be performed by the customer or a technician at a higher temperature.
  • Maintenance Concept: WMF recommends a time- and serving-dependent maintenance schedule, including:
    • Service Maintenance 2 (SM 2): Every 2 years, involving specific maintenance packages (e.g., 33 2926 5000* for 1 Boiler, 33 2926 4000* for Basic Milk/Easy Milk, 33 2926 6100* for Dynamic Milk). This includes an extended inspection of the boiler and steam boiler.
    • Water Filter Replacement: Annually or after the service life interval.
    • Descaling: Annually (without water filter) or after adjustment of water hardness.
  • Removable Brew Aperture: The brew aperture in the top brewing piston can be removed for cleaning, helping to prevent flow errors by flushing out sediment.
  • Special Tools and Aids:
    • Bridging plug manual insert (33 2628 9000): For specific manual insertions.
    • USB stick (33 2492 5000): Must be FAT32 formatted, with external dimensions not exceeding 52 x 14 x 5.5 mm. Used for software updates and data transfer.
    • WMF 1500S/5000S Multitool (33 2408 4000): Used to rotate grinders, adjust brewing units, and set grinding degrees.
    • Test tool comprising (33 2730 0000): Includes a pressure manometer, auxiliary nipple (33 2320 8000), and O-ring (33 0398 5000) for pressure testing.
    • USB mouse, keyboard: Can be connected to the front panel for simplified touchscreen entry.
    • Test tool for FFC (33.4279.5000): Allows testing the machine when opened, particularly if the FFC base part is faulty.
