Do you have a question about the Napoleon P500RSIBP-3 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document is a user manual for the Napoleon Prestige 500 gas grill, providing comprehensive information on its function, specifications, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description:

The Napoleon Prestige 500 is an outdoor gas grill designed for cooking food in a well-ventilated space. It is certified under Canadian and American National Standards (CSA 1.6-2015 and ANSI Z21.58-2015) for outdoor gas grills. The grill can be used for direct cooking (searing, hamburgers, steaks, chicken pieces, vegetables) and indirect cooking (larger cuts of meats like roasts, chickens, turkeys, or foods prone to flare-ups). Some models are equipped with a rear burner for rotisserie cooking and an infrared side burner for searing or cooking with pots and pans.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Grill Size: 500 sq.in (3200 sq.cm)
  • Warming Rack Size: 260 sq.in (1680 sq. cm)
  • Clearance to Combustibles: 20" (508mm) to the rear, 7" (178mm) to the sides. An additional 24" (610mm) clearance is recommended near vinyl siding or glass panes.
  • Propane Cylinder Pressure: 11 inches water column (0.39 PSI)
  • Natural Gas Inlet Pressure: 7 inches water column
  • Propane Cylinder Type (Cart models): 20 lb (9.1 kg) size propane cylinder only (not supplied), equipped with a QCC1 cylinder valve and an overfill protection device (OPD).
  • Gas Supply System: Arranged for vapor withdrawal.
  • Burner Material: Heavy wall 304 stainless steel.
  • Infrared Burner Ports: 10,000 tiny flames per burner.
  • Air Shutter Settings:
    • Main Tube Burner: Propane 1/2" (13mm), Natural 3/8" (10mm)
    • Rear Tube Burner: Propane Full Open, Natural 1/8" (3mm)
    • Infrared burners have no air adjustment.
  • Side Burner Pan Diameter: 10" (25 cm) to 12" (30 cm).

Usage Features:

  • Outdoor Use Only: Must be used outdoors in a well-ventilated area, not inside buildings, garages, screened-in porches, gazebos, or any other enclosed spaces.
  • Assembly: Must be assembled exactly according to instructions. Leak tests are required before initial use, annually, and whenever gas components are replaced.
  • Lighting: Detailed instructions are provided for lighting main burners, rear burner (if equipped), and side burner (optional). The lid must be open when lighting main burners. Burner controls must be off when turning on the gas supply.
  • Preheating: Recommended to preheat the grill with the lid closed for approximately 10 minutes, especially for searing.
  • Cooking Methods:
    • Direct Cooking: For searing or foods requiring short cooking times (hamburgers, steaks, chicken pieces, vegetables).
    • Indirect Cooking: For larger cuts of meats (roasts, chickens, turkeys) or foods prone to flare-ups, by placing food over an unlit burner with other burners operating.
    • Rear Burner (Rotisserie): Designed for use with a rotisserie kit (available from dealer). Requires removing the warming rack and cooking grids if they interfere. Includes instructions for using a counterbalance.
    • Infrared Side Burner: Can be positioned at two heights (lower for pots/pans, higher for searing). Requires operating on high for 5 minutes with the lid open until ceramic burners glow red. Keep lid open when cooking with infrared burners.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Do not modify the grill.
    • Do not operate under overhead combustible construction.
    • Turn off gas supply when not in use.
    • Store propane cylinders outdoors in a well-ventilated space, out of reach of children.
    • Do not store spare propane cylinders under the barbecue or in enclosed areas.
    • Inspect fuel supply hose before each use; replace if worn or cut.
    • Do not route hose underneath drip pan or behind front leg.
    • Do not light burners with lid closed.
    • Do not operate rear burner with main burners simultaneously.
    • Do not move grill when hot.
    • Do not use condiment tray for combustibles.
    • Keep electrical cords and fuel hoses away from heated surfaces.
    • Clean grease tray and sear plates regularly to prevent grease fires.
    • Inspect infrared burner venturi tube for obstructions.
    • Do not allow cold water to contact heated unit or ceramic burners.
    • Do not use a pressure washer.
    • Do not close side burner lid while operating or hot.
    • Do not deep fry foods on the side burner.
    • Supervise children near the grill due to high surface temperatures.
  • Wind Deflector: An optional wind deflector is available to prevent heat buildup under the control panel in windy conditions.

Maintenance Features:

  • Annual Inspection: Recommended to have the grill inspected and serviced annually by a qualified service person.
  • Cleaning:
    • Outer Grill Surface: Clean with warm soapy water. Use stainless steel cleaner for stainless surfaces, wiping in the direction of the grain. Avoid abrasive cleaners or steel wool.
    • Grids and Warming Rack: Clean with a brass wire brush during pre-heating. Steel wool can be used for stubborn stains.
    • Cast Iron Cooking Grids: Season regularly with vegetable shortening to resist corrosion and enhance non-stick properties. Wash with mild dish soap and water before first use.
    • Control Panel: Clean with warm soapy water. Avoid abrasive cleaners on printed areas.
    • Inside the Gas Grill: Remove cooking grids. Use a brass wire brush to clean debris from casting sides and under the lid. Scrape sear plates with a putty knife or scraper. Brush debris from burners. Sweep all debris into the drip pan.
    • Drip Pan: Clean frequently (every 4-5 uses or as required) to prevent grease buildup. Do not line with aluminum foil or sand. Scrape out with a putty knife or scraper. Replace disposable grease trays every 2-4 weeks.
    • Burners: Clean with a brass wire brush to remove surface corrosion. Inspect and clean burner ports and valve orifices for blockages using a paperclip or supplied port maintenance bit. Clean the venturi tube for spider webs and other obstructions.
    • Infrared Burners: To prevent cracking of ceramic surfaces: avoid impact with hard objects, do not allow cold liquids to contact hot ceramic surfaces (especially rain or sprinklers), ensure proper ventilation (do not cover more than 75% of cooking surface with solid metal), and clean by operating on high for 5 minutes with the lid open to burn off debris. Do not clean with a wire brush.
  • Air Shutter Adjustment: Factory set, but may require adjustment in extreme conditions. A qualified gas installer should perform this. Adjust to achieve dark blue flames, tipped with light blue and occasionally yellow.
  • Door Adjustment: Doors may require adjusting once installed using the door leveling screw.
