Why does the Newport Controller mirror move in the opposite direction?
    • P
      Paul LopezAug 11, 2025
If the Newport Controller mirror moves in the opposite direction, it's likely due to reversed polarity at the X and Y Command Inputs or the X and Y External Feedback Inputs. Correct this by reversing your electrical connections, as these four inputs are differential and lack a fixed ground.

How to troubleshoot a Newport Controller that doesn't respond and the PWR light is off?
    • D
      Dustin DavisAug 17, 2025
If the green PWR indicator light is off and the Newport Controller mirror does not respond to command inputs, it indicates that the controller is not receiving power. Ensure the power plug is live, the power switch is ON, and the fuses (located above the power connector) are in good condition.

What to do if the red TEMP indicator LED is on and the Newport Controller doesn't respond?
    • M
      Mary WilliamsAug 23, 2025
If the red TEMP indicator LED is illuminated and the Newport Controller fails to respond, it indicates an over-temperature condition detected by the thermistors due to the drive coils being overdriven. To resolve this, reduce the amplitude or frequency of the drive signal. Also, verify that the external feedback signal polarity is correct. The system will automatically return to normal operation once the coils cool down.

What to do if the yellow CURR indicator LED is on for Newport Controller?
    • M
      martinezleslieAug 28, 2025
If the yellow CURR indicator LED is on and the drive signals to the mirror are clipped on your Newport Controller, it means that too much RMS current is being applied to the FSM drive coils, potentially causing an over-temperature condition. You should decrease the amplitude and/or frequency of the drive signal.

What to do if Newport Controller mirror doesn't respond but the green PWR light is on?
    • T
      Tristan ClarkSep 4, 2025
If the green PWR indicator light is on, but the Newport Controller mirror still doesn't respond to command inputs, it could be due to +5V being applied to either the INT/EXT selector switch input (Pin 17), causing the system to expect External Feedback inputs (Pins 11, 2, 15, 16); or +5V applied to Open Loop selector switch inputs (Pins 9 or 10), causing the system to expect Open Loop inputs (Pins 22, 24). The suggested solution is to remove the +5V source or supply control voltages on the required pins.
