Basic Camera Setup
Format Memory/Format Card
Format the internal memory or a memory card.
Formatting permanently deletes all data in the internal memory or
memory card. The deleted data cannot be recovered. Be sure to transfer
important pictures to a computer before formatting.
Formatting Internal Memory
To format the internal memory, remove the memory
card from the camera. The Format memory option is
displayed in the setup menu.
Formatting Memory Card
To format the memory card, insert it in the camera. The
Format card option is displayed in the setup menu.

• Album icon settings (A127) are reset to their default settings (number icons) when the internal
memory or memory card is formatted.
• Do not turn off the camera or open the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover during
formatting.
• The first time you insert a memory card that has been used in another device into this camera, be
sure to format it with this camera.
