  If Nikon Transfer isn't starting when you connect your Nikon Digital Camera, first ensure the camera is turned on and that the battery isn't exhausted—replace or charge it if necessary. Check that the USB cable is correctly connected and reconnect it if needed. If you're using Windows 2000 Professional, note that the camera may not connect; consider using a different operating system. Ensure your computer recognizes the camera and that it's set to launch Nikon Transfer automatically.

  If your Nikon Digital Camera's pictures are too dark (underexposed), first ensure the flash is turned on. If the flash window is blocked, unblock it. If the subject is too far away, move closer. You can also adjust the exposure compensation or use a higher ISO sensitivity. If the subject is backlit, select the Backlight scene mode or use fill flash.

  If you can't use digital zoom on your Nikon Digital Camera, it might be set to Off in the setup menu; set it to On. Digital zoom is also unavailable when Portrait or Night portrait is selected for Scene mode, so change the scene mode. It's also unavailable when Multi-shot 16 is selected for Continuous, so select a different Continuous mode. Finally, it's unavailable just before recording a movie, so wait until after recording is complete (up to 2× can be applied while recording movies other than Time-lapse movieP).

  If the flash on your Nikon Digital Camera does not fire, first ensure that the flash is turned on. If it is on, check if you've selected a scene mode that doesn't allow flash and change to one that does. Also, ensure you're not in a D mode other than Time-lapse movieP; switch to a D mode that allows flash. Finally, if Continuous, Multi-shot 16, or BSS is selected for Continuous, change the Continuous setting.
