1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 Purpose of this document
The purpose of this document is to convert the UI principles and to unify the UI of all applications within a single
Nokia 9210 Communicator. The target readership of this document includes developers of the previous
communicators, EPOC platform developers and developers of any other small device environments (handheld devices,
palmtops, PDAs, smart phones).
1.2 Interactive Elements
The interactive elements in the communicator are
- 4 command buttons on the right-hand side of the display (CBA)
- a menu
- a PDA keyboard which resides below the display
In other words, there is no pen or other direct manipulating device except for a pointer which can be manipulated via
the Arrows key in the keyboard.
The UI of the cellular telephone cannot be programmed.
1.3 Glossary
Term Definition
AMP Arrow Manipulated Pointer = A pointer that can be manipulated via keyboard.
CBA Command Button Area = The area on the PDA display reserved for the commands
corresponding to the soft keys. The commands are context-sensitive.
Command button Buttons on the right-hand side of the PDA display that correspond to commands
presented in the Command Button Area.
Menu button A button which activates the Menu.
PDA Personal Digital Assistant.
SDK Software Development Kit.
Shortcut A single key press or a combination of key presses that performs an action. Also
called Hot Keys and Accelerators.
UI User Interface.
