■ Start direct mode communication
Activate direct mode
To activate direct mode, select Menu→Settings→Phone settings→Active
mode→Direct. To return to the network mode, select Network.
When you activate the direct mode, the selected channel and group are those that
were last selected in the direct mode. When you return to the network mode, the
selected folder and group are those that were last selected in the network mode.
When the radio operates in normal direct mode, Direct mode is displayed in the
standby mode, and is displayed during direct mode calls. The names of the
selected channel and group are shown on the display. The bar above indicates
the signal strength of the radio you are receiving communication from. The higher
the bar, the stronger the signal, and the better the connection.
If a compatible direct mode gateway device is available, Gateway is displayed in
the standby mode, and the bar above indicates the signal strength of the
gateway. is displayed during direct mode calls. If a compatible direct mode
repeater device is available, Repeater is displayed in the standby mode, and the
bar above indicates the signal strength of the repeater. is displayed

Select channels and groups
Up to 60 direct mode channels can be stored in the memory of the radio. Up to
three groups can be stored for each channel. To select a channel, turn the group
selector until the desired channel is displayed. Wait until Group selected is
