The Nomadic Cooling NC-S¹ Mini-Split Air Conditioner is a DC-powered air conditioning unit designed for installation in semi-trucks, overland rigs, vans, and RVs. It aims to provide a comfortable and cool environment in vehicles, offering simplified installation, reduced noise levels, and improved energy efficiency. The unit is available in Arctic White or Obsidian Black and comes in 48V, 24V, and 12V models.

Function Description:

The NC-S¹ operates as a mini-split air conditioning system, consisting of an exterior compressor unit and an interior evaporator unit. The system works by circulating refrigerant through a closed loop. The compressor squeezes the refrigerant, increasing its pressure and temperature. This high-pressure, high-temperature gas/vapor then moves to the condenser (located in the exterior unit), where an intake fan pulls fresh air over the coils, cooling the refrigerant and returning it to a liquid state. The liquid refrigerant then passes through an expansion valve, which allows it to expand and draw heat, converting it into a low-pressure liquid. This low-pressure liquid then enters the evaporator coils (located in the interior unit), where it absorbs heat from the indoor air, expanding into a vaporous state. A blower/motor in the interior unit recycles indoor air across these evaporator coils, circulating cooled air throughout the vehicle. The vaporous refrigerant then returns to the compressor to restart the cycle.

Usage Features:

The NC-S¹ is controlled via an infrared remote control and an all-new, crisp LCD interior control panel.

• Power On/Off: Turns the AC unit on or off.
• Temperature Adjustment: Increases or decreases temperature by 1°F.
• Fan Speed Adjustment: Increases or decreases air speed by 1 level, with five fan speeds available in "Fan Only" mode.
• Modes: Cycles through various operating modes:
  • Fan Only: Operates with five fan speeds displayed on the right side of the display.
  • CFT ("Channel Forwarding Table"): Not used at this time. The unit will cycle off and back on after 7 seconds in this mode.
  • BP (Snowflake): Cold mode with variable airflow speed.
  • ECO Mode: Cooling and airflow set to the lowest levels for energy efficiency.
  • VVS ("STRONG") Mode: Cooling and airflow set to the highest levels for fastest cooling.
• Digital Display Toggle: Switches between Fahrenheit (Fº) and Celsius (Cº).
• Swing Function: Oscillates the lower louver automatically to maximize airflow and overall cooling effect.
• Sleep Mode: Automatically puts the unit to sleep once the target temperature is reached and wakes up if the ambient temperature rises above the target.
• Strong Mode: Activates the fastest cooling effect (VVS mode) with a quick press of a dedicated remote button.
• VDC: Not used at this time.

The remote control allows users to manage five fan speeds and modes, swing, sleep, and the digital display. The interior control panel provides similar functionality with buttons for power, temperature adjustment, fan speed, and mode selection.

Maintenance Features:

• Installation: The NC-S¹ is designed for simplified installation, with a mini-split system that can be installed by one person with brief assistance from a second. The guide provides detailed instructions for DIYers and professional installers, including mounting the exterior and interior units, making connections, and filling refrigerant.
• Refrigerant Filling: The unit ships without refrigerant and must be filled after installation. Nomadic Cooling highly recommends having this performed by a professional service technician to ensure compliance with Federal, State, County, and Municipal codes related to electrical wiring and refrigerant handling.
• Fault Codes: The interior controller displays fault codes to assist in troubleshooting:
  • Err: Temperature sensor error.
  • ErP: Electrical engineering error with no feedback.
  • Er E: Communication error with mother board.
  • Er L: Low pressure protection.
  • Er H: High pressure protection.
• Warranty: A one-year warranty covers defects due to manufacturing or workmanship issues. An optional one-year extended warranty is available. The customer is responsible for shipping costs for warranty inspections, repairs, replacements, or upgrades. The warranty does not cover damage from misuse, improper installation, natural disasters, normal wear and tear, or unauthorized modifications. Labor costs for inspection, repair, or replacement are also excluded.

The NC-S¹ is designed to be robust, featuring a spring bushing-mounted compressor, a quiet brushless blower motor, no startup voltage surge, all stainless steel hardware, and a powder-coated exterior shroud. These features contribute to its durability and ease of maintenance in demanding vehicle environments.
