Overview

The OMRON E3V3 is a built-in amplifier photoelectric sensor designed for ease of use and cost-effectiveness. It incorporates several features that make it suitable for various industrial applications, including accurate detection of lustrous objects and resistance to harsh environments.

Function Description:

The E3V3 sensor operates on photoelectric principles, detecting objects by emitting and receiving light. It is available in three sensing methods: Through-beam, Retroreflective (polarized), and Diffuse reflective. The Through-beam models detect objects that interrupt the light beam between a separate emitter and receiver. The Retroreflective (polarized) models detect objects that reflect a polarized light beam back to the sensor, making them effective for detecting shiny or lustrous objects without false reflections. The Diffuse reflective models detect objects by sensing the light reflected directly from the object's surface. The sensor provides both NPN and PNP output types, and its operating mode (Light-ON or Dark-ON) is selectable by wiring. It features operation and stability indicators for easy monitoring of its status.

This involves locating the sensing object, turning the adjustor clockwise until the operation indicator lights up (point A), removing the object, turning the adjustor clockwise until the operation indicator lights up again (point B) to detect the background, then turning it counterclockwise until the operation indicator turns off (point C). The optimal setting is midway between points A and C.
  • Mounting: Uses M3 screws for mounting. Mounting brackets (E39-L104, E39-L44, E39-L43, E39-L98, E39-L93) are available separately to accommodate different installation requirements (standard vertical, rear, side, metal cover, sensor adjustor).
  • Accessories: Various accessories are available separately to enhance functionality, including:
    • Retroreflectors: E39-R3 (corner cube), E39-RSA, E39-RSB (glass bead adhesive back, tape type).
    • Slits for Through-beam Sensors: E39-S7 (0.5, 1, 2 dia. slits) to narrow the light beam for precise detection.

Maintenance Features:

  • Easy Replacement: The E3V3 is designed to replace older E3V sensors, simplifying upgrades and maintenance.
  • Installation Precautions:
    • Power Supply: Ensure the correct 12 to 24 VDC power supply is used. If using a switching regulator, ground the FG and G terminals to prevent malfunction from switching noise.
    • Wiring: Avoid placing input/output lines in the same conduit as power or high-voltage lines to prevent electrical noise interference. Use shielded lines if separation is not possible.
    • Mounting: Avoid hitting the E3V3 with a hammer during mounting to prevent loss of watertightness. Position the sensor carefully to ensure the stability indicator lights up, confirming optimal detection range.
    • Reflector Handling: When using E39-R3, E39-RSA, or E39-RSB reflectors, ensure the surface is clean before applying adhesive tape. Do not cut, scratch, or press the reflector with metal objects, as this can compromise its watertightness and function.
  • Environmental Considerations: The sensor is not designed for use in water, rain, or outdoors, despite its IP67 rating, suggesting it is intended for indoor industrial environments with occasional water exposure rather than continuous outdoor use.
  • Safety: The E3V3 is not a safety component as defined by EC directive 91/368/EEC or other European standards. It should not be used in applications where human safety depends on its operation.
