How to fix insufficient ribbon indexing (overlapping prints) on Open Date IQ?
- BbjohnsonAug 20, 2025
Overlapping prints on your Open Date Printer due to insufficient ribbon indexing can be caused by several issues. First, check if the cardboard core fits the rewind spool correctly or if it's missing; ensure the correct core is fitted well on the hub. Also, check if the foil is correctly attached to the cardboard core; use adhesive tape to secure the ribbon and wind it a few turns. Dirty printer rods or the printhead assembly can also cause this; clean them as described in the maintenance section. A damaged, worn, or dirty brake belt on the feed spool can be another reason; renew the brake belt. Finally, the tension arm spring tension on the brake belt might not be set correctly; adjust the brake belt so the tension arm is about 6mm from the stop pin when functioning correctly.
