Overview

The device described in the manual is a 2 Ton 12 Volt Electric Scissor Jack, identified by Item Number W1609. It is designed as an emergency lifting device primarily for tire changing or tire chain mounting.

Function Description

This electric scissor jack is used to lift vehicles for temporary purposes, such as changing a flat tire or installing tire chains. It operates on a 12-volt DC power supply, typically from a vehicle's utility plug. The jack features a remote control with "UP" and "DOWN" buttons to raise and lower the vehicle. The saddle of the jack is designed to be positioned under the vehicle at manufacturer-recommended lift locations, ensuring the load is centered for stability. An emergency hand crank is included for manual operation in case of power failure. The jack is intended for use on hard, level surfaces capable of sustaining the load.

    • 1200 lb. at 6 inches or more extended.

  • Power Cord Length: 12 ft.

Usage Features

The jack is operated via a remote control connected to the vehicle's 12V utility plug. To raise the vehicle:

  1. Park the vehicle on a hard, level surface, away from oncoming traffic.
  2. Engage the vehicle's transmission in PARK (automatic) or its lowest gear (manual).
  3. Turn off the vehicle's engine.
  4. Set the emergency brake and chock the wheels that are not being lifted.
  5. Consult the vehicle owner's manual for proper jacking procedures, lifting only on manufacturer-specified areas.
  6. Place the electric jack on smooth, flat, solid ground, ensuring the load is centered on the saddle, utilizing the vehicle's seam and saddle cutouts. The jack should face toward the vehicle.
  7. Plug the jack's power cord into the vehicle's utility plug.
  8. Use the "UP" button on the remote to confirm saddle positioning; use "DOWN" if repositioning is needed.
  9. Press "UP" until the car reaches the desired height. To lower the vehicle:
  10. Press the "DOWN" button on the remote to lower the vehicle completely after repair.
  11. Always support the load with jack stands of appropriate capacity (not included) beneath the vehicle at manufacturer-recommended locations. Never work under a vehicle without jack stands.
  12. Jacks are not designed to maintain heavy loads for long periods. Do not attempt to place jack stands simultaneously under both ends or one side of the vehicle. If using two jack stands, they must be at the same height. The manual emphasizes that the jack is a lifting device only and should not be used to move or dolly the load. It also warns against exceeding rated capacities, using the jack on uneven surfaces, or altering the product. Safety goggles and heavy-duty work gloves are recommended during use.

Maintenance Features

Monthly maintenance is recommended to ensure the jack remains operational and to prevent damage from dirt, rust, or lack of lubrication. Key maintenance steps include:

  1. Pre-use Inspection: Before each use, inspect the jack for broken, cracked, bent, loose, or missing parts. Any damaged jack must be removed from service and repaired before further use.
  2. Part Replacement: Replace worn or damaged parts with Performance Tool replacement parts, ensuring repairs are performed by qualified personnel.
  3. Operational Test: Thoroughly test the jack for proper operation before actual use.
  4. Storage: When not in use, the jack should be stored in a fully down position to protect machined surfaces from corrosion.
  5. Lubrication: Keep the jack clean and well-lubricated at illustrated points (specifically the Screw Rod). High-quality lightweight oil is recommended for best results. Keeping the Screw Rod well-oiled and rust-free prevents binding during use. The manual also stresses the importance of maintaining labels and nameplates, as they carry important information. If unreadable or missing, replacements should be obtained from Performance Tool.
