(1) Fuel priming pump
(2) Fuel priming switch
1. The fuel system can be primed from the keyswitch
or from a remote mounted switch (2).
2. Turn the fuel priming switch (2) to the ON position.
Hold the fuel priming switch in the ON position for
2 minutes.
3. Verify that the water separator is full of fuel.
4. If the water separator is not full of fuel, turn the fuel
priming switch OFF and then turn the engine start
switch ON. This action will cycle the fuel priming
pump again.
5. When the water separator is full of fuel, attempt to
start the engine. If the engine starts and the
engine runs rough or the engine misfires, operate
at low idle until the engine is running smoothly. If
the engine cannot be started, or if the engine
continues to misfire or smoke, repeat Step 1.
The fuel system can also be primed by using the key
switch. Turn the key to the ON position for 2 minutes.
After 2 minutes the fuel system should be primed. If
necessary, by cycling the key switch the system will
prime again for 2 minutes.

Fuel System Primary Filter
(Water Separator) Element -
Replace
Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electri-
cal components can cause a fire. To help prevent
possible injury, turn the start switch off when
changing fuel filters or water separator elements.
Clean up fuel spills immediately.
NOTICE
Do not allow dirt to enter the fuel system. Thoroughly
clean the area around a fuel system component that
will be disconnected. Fit a suitable cover over discon-
nected fuel system component.
NOTICE
Do not fill fuel filters with fuel before installing
them. The fuel will not be filtered and could be
contaminated. Contaminated fuel will cause ac-
celerated wear to fuel system parts. The fuel sys-
tem should be primed prior to starting the engine.
Water in the fuel can cause the engine to run rough.
Water in the fuel may cause an electronic unit injector
to fail. If the fuel has been contaminated with water,
the element should be changed before the regularly
scheduled interval.
The primary filter/water separator also provides
filtration in order to help extend the life of the
secondary fuel filter. The element should be changed
regularly. If a vacuum gauge is installed, the primary
filter/water separator should be changed at
50 to 70 kPa (15 to 20 inches Hg).
