      If your Phase 3 Battery Charger continues to charge at 3 amps or more without tapering back, it might be due to a D.C. load connected to the batteries drawing current. To check this, turn off the main battery switch to the D.C. electrical panel or switch off all D.C. loads to see if the charger outputs minimal amperage to fully charged batteries. Another possible cause is a bad cell in one of the batteries. For wet lead-acid batteries, use a hydrometer to check for a shorted cell. Consult the manufacturer for testing maintenance-free batteries.

      If your Phase 3 Battery Charger's batteries are not reaching full charge, there could be several reasons. First, the batteries might be extremely discharged, requiring a longer recharge time. In this case, turn off all D.C. loads and allow the charger 24-48 hours to recharge the batteries. Another reason could be that the charger is limiting its output due to overload or over-temperature conditions. Try reducing the D.C. load and check for the cause of the over-temperature condition. Also, check the fan to ensure there is no blockage at the fan intake on the bottom of the charger. If the fan isn't working, replace it.

      If you measure high voltage across the output terminals of your Phase 3 Battery Charger, it could be due to a couple of reasons. First, ensure that the batteries are properly connected to the charger. It's normal to see a slightly higher voltage (about 1/2 volt) across the output bank when no batteries are connected. Check for a tight connection of the charging leads to the batteries. Second, the equalize function might be activated. Verify the proper installation and operation of the equalize timer.

      If your Phase 3 Battery Charger will not stay in the bulk/absorption phase when the re-initialize button on the remote panel is pressed, it might be because the batteries are already at or nearing a full charge. To verify proper operation, cycle the A.C. power off and on (or press the reinitialize button on the optional remote panel), then apply a large D.C. load.
