Problem Cause Remedy
The grate does not warm
Quantity of wood less than necessary
for nominal efficiency
Use the quantity of wood indicated in

Undersized grate for the environment
to be heated
Integrate with another product
Inadequate insulation for the environ-
ment in which the fireplace is installed
Insulate well with suitable materials
Oversized fresh air intake Decrease the intake section
Smoke comes out of the fireplace in
adverse weather conditions
Chimney stack has no down-draught
cowl
Replace the chimney stack with one
that has a down-draught cowl
Flue not suitably insulated
Clad the flue with hollow tiles or
other insulating materials
Smoke comes out upon opening the
door
Door opened too fast
Keep the door just ajar for a few
seconds before fully opening
There are still flames
Only open the door when just embers
remain in the grate
