10.4 Testing
Before finally commissioning the safety laser scanner after the installation and alignment, fi-
nal inspections must be carried out.
INFORMATION
This inspection may only be carried out by qualified personnel.
Check safety function of the safety laser scanner
Procedure:
As a test piece, use an opaque object with a height of at least 300 mm and a diameter that
corresponds to the selected detection capability.
} Move the test piece at various points along the limits of the safety zone into the safety
zone:
The OSSDs must switch to the OFF state with each entry of the test piece into the safety
zone.
} Switch off the safety laser scanner.
Both OSSDs have to automatically switch to the OFF state. The machine in the mon-
itored danger zone is switched off and in cannot be started.
} Behaviour when the safety zone is free again
Remove the test piece from the safety zone.
– Automatic restart
The safety laser scanner starts automatically and the OSSDs switch to the ON state.
– Manual restart
The OSSDs remain in OFF state and they only switch to the ON state when the start
pushbutton was operated for at least 0.5 s and a maximum of 5 s and released again.
Supplementary test step for vertical applications
Change the position of the reference points beyond the tolerance range of the reference
points:
The OSSDs must switch to the OFF state with each change of the reference point beyond
the tolerance range.
Check ambient conditions and installation
} Correct alignment and fixing
Check that the fixing screws of the safety laser scanner are firmly seated.
} Safety distance
The safety distance must comply with the requirements in Maintaining the safety
distance [ 35].
} Circumventing the safety zone
The hazardous area must be secured so that it is impossible to access by circumventing
the safety zone.
