Overview

The Planet Audio ANARCHY Class D Amplifier is a car audio amplifier designed to deliver high-quality sound and performance. This series includes three models: AC3000.1D, AC4000.1D, and AC5000.1D, all engineered in the USA.

Function Description:

The ANARCHY Class D Amplifier is primarily designed for car audio systems, specifically for driving subwoofers. Its Class D operation ensures high efficiency, while the MOSFET PWM (Pulse Width Modulated) Power Supply provides stable power delivery. The amplifier is capable of one-ohm stable mono operation, allowing it to drive a variety of subwoofer configurations. It features a soft turn-on circuit to prevent abrupt power surges and a remote turn-on/turn-off circuit for integration with the vehicle's head unit.

Usage Features:

The amplifier offers a range of controls to fine-tune audio output. It includes variable low pass and subsonic filters, which help in shaping the frequency response for optimal subwoofer performance. The low pass filter can be adjusted from 50-150 Hz with a 12dB/octave slope, while the subsonic filter ranges from 15-40 Hz, also with a 12dB/octave slope, to protect subwoofers from damaging ultra-low frequencies.

A variable input gain control allows users to match the amplifier's input level to the output level of their audio source, preventing distortion. An input voltage sensitivity selector further aids in this integration. For enhanced bass, a variable 0-+18dB Bass Boost control is included, which can be adjusted via a remote subwoofer level control module, providing convenient access to bass adjustments from the driver's seat.

The amplifier also features a 0/180° Phase Shift selector, which helps compensate for time delays in subwoofer applications, ensuring that the subwoofer's output is in phase with the rest of the audio system.

A unique feature of this Class D amplifier is its DataLink circuitry, which enables "strapping" two identical ANARCHY Class D amplifiers together. For example, two AC5000.1D units can be combined to achieve a total maximum output power of 10,000 watts, providing immense power for demanding audio setups. In a master/slave configuration, the slave amplifier receives its audio signal from the master amplifier, meaning the inputs on the slave amplifier should not be used. Similarly, the subwoofer level control on the slave amplifier should not be used in this setup.

The amplifier is equipped with chrome-plated RCA low-level inputs for reliable signal transfer and nickel-plated speaker and power terminals for secure connections. LED power and protection indicators provide visual feedback on the amplifier's operational status, alerting users to potential issues like thermal overload or speaker shorts.

Maintenance Features:

The ANARCHY Class D Amplifier incorporates several protection mechanisms to ensure longevity and safe operation. It includes thermal, overload, and speaker short protection circuits, which automatically safeguard the amplifier from damage due to excessive heat, current, or faulty speaker connections. A black anodized heatsink helps dissipate heat efficiently, contributing to the amplifier's stability during prolonged use.

For installation, it is crucial to ensure sufficient air circulation around the amplifier to prevent overheating. The manual emphasizes the importance of using appropriate wire gauges for power and ground connections (4GA or heavier) and installing an inline fuse within 18 inches of the car battery to protect the vehicle's electrical system. Ground connections should always be as short as possible and connected to a good chassis ground point.

In case of a blown fuse, it is essential to replace it with one of identical type and rating to avoid damaging the audio system or the amplifier. The manual also advises against opening or attempting to repair the unit due to the presence of dangerous high voltages. Any repairs should be referred to a qualified service technician. Users are cautioned to prevent the amplifier from becoming damp or wet, as this can lead to electronic shock or damage. If smoke or peculiar odors are detected, or if there is damage to components, the power cord should be immediately unplugged, and the amplifier should be serviced.

Troubleshooting tips are provided to address common operational or performance problems, such as the amplifier not powering up, the protection LED illuminating, no audio output, low output, audio in only one channel, high hiss, squealing noise, distorted sound, the amplifier getting very hot, and engine noise (static or alternator whine). These tips guide users through checking connections, fuse status, input levels, crossover settings, and speaker wiring, as well as ensuring proper grounding and air circulation.
